At what point did you realize you weren't going to the league?

I thought I was Mario Balotelli before Balo when I played soccer in middle school. I played in the city league and I was good. My dad coached me the couple years prior. We went undefeated two straight years and I had the most goals in the league the year prior. So this new season we have these twins straight imported from South America itself. And from practice I knew these kids were good from being on the same team, but my ego didn't allow me to register just how good these guys were. So halfway through the season we are undefeated and I believe the goal spread between the twins and me were fairly evenly spread. The team we were facing didn't have enough players to play so the twins volunteered to play on their team :skip:
It started raining as if an omen to let me know what was about to happen to my soccer dreams, down the drain :to:. To make a long story short them nikkas dominated us, by themselves. It was like 6-0. They made me, a bonafide scorer look like a U.S. vs. Germany matchup. Completely outmatched in every sense of the word. And they made it seem so effortlessly is what killed me. I couldn't do anything them to stop them either. I was only 12 at the time, but something in my head clicked that made me realize I really wasn't shyt :wow: That was our only loss that season, and my first in over two years, but the way them nikkas made me look like a bytch messed with mr something serious :wow:. I never played competitive soccer again and switched to football for the rest of my adolescence.
Ain't no way me and the whole squad wouldn't be jumping those fags after the game :pachaha:

:russ: you right. i was way younger than him at the time, but i knew i was not gonna be able to go as hard as him @ hooping, and that dude is barely an nba journeyman.

they other thing that would have solidified it if i hadnt said fukkit previously was seein an nba 15th man who averaged .2 pts a game over a few years in the lg DESTROY a high school basketball team all by him self, and this breh was in his late 30's and had been out the league for a minute.

Man... some of these 'bums' that people talk about. They don't even know. They don't even comprehend unless you make the boxing comparison.

You think you're the best slap boxer on your bus? In your class? At lunch? These dudes may not ever get a title fight or be anything other than a champ's warmup after getting out of jail - but you never want to throw hands with them. Ever. You might literally die. That's the level of separation between guys who get paid to hoop and guys who gotta buy their own icepacks at Walgreens.

6th grade ish was my first realization...I got invited to UNCs Basketball Camp for my AAU play. I thought I was pretty good for my age. But when I got there and we had our first scrimmage, I got dogged consistently. I think it was due mostly to the fact that I was the youngest age in the age group I was in, but I was getting murdered every time down the court.

Fast forward a few years, 11th grade. I'm starting at DE in football, basically just to keep in shape for Basketball. I break free of the line, hauling ass to the QB, and some bytch ass Tight End pulls and cuts me at the knee and dislocates my knee cap.

I got pretty far before I realized I was destined to be a scrub.

I played college ball so I thought I was on something. Knew I couldn't shoot - but I'd yet to meet anyone really faster than me and I knew that I was one of the most fukkless people going to the rim in my whole state. I ate off that. I still had the lazy mentality of "I'll work on my handles next year." "I don't need to be able to outside of 18 ft when I got a first step that can give people diarrhea" "I just dropped a triple double with 6 points scored, fukk wit me" etc...

When people were trying out for the Bobcats and other affiliates when they were first starting out, I figured I'd show up (I worked as an intern for the Bob Johnson years) and see where I was at among the washouts.

It was good comp. But somehow or another I was matched up in front of Will Bynum... I followed his career, so I kinda thought I knew what was coming. Dude was just...

Me

but better at everything and twice as strong :dwillhuh: and at the time even he was struggling to get a look :to:

I never feared getting crossed because I was faster than everyone I'd ever been in front of before. Even when I did get shook, I could recover quick enough to throw some shyt into the stands and act like it never happened. I'll never forget the play where he broke my will to keep playing. Dude comes down the court looking for a pick, I slip under daring him to shoot. Looked him right in the face like I was gonna put clamps to him. HE STILL RESPECTED ME AT THAT MOMENT. He passed the ball to his big, stepped back, got the ball back and sized me up in the triple.

Said to me. "You got heart, man :myman:"

And I'm no bytch. He ain't gotta talk to me like I'm his son, so I do the right thing and get right up on him. Will jab steps left, I don't bite, but then he swings through my outstretched arms and I swear to God I've never had physical contact with someone so damned powerful in my life. It felt like he shattered my wrist with the ball. I was still thinking I was tough like that so I kept playing. I had to. I force him left, he yanks THE FUKK out of me, I do the one thing I do best and recover off my backfoot and go straight to cut him off in the air looking to board his layup and his shoulder went straight through me. Like... his shoulder hit me in my chest and I felt it in my toes and fingertips. Dude literally carried me higher

for a layup

I got ragdolled for a fukkin layup. I don't think he sweated a single drop while I was guarding him. And he was a nobody at the time.

Never in my life did I feel so powerless. I was nothing but a shaved squirrel on the court trying to guard him.

"Good D, kid :myman:"

Shut the fukk up Will Bynum :pacspit::to:

Played against Kevin Durant when he was at UT.

I guarded him two possessions (Mind you, I'm 5'11) and it just made no sense.

I blinked and I swear this dude had blown past me so fast that it didn't even seem real. The second time, I was doing everything I could to pester him and keep him from getting the ball but his teammate through him a high pass. The dude caught it and, in one swift motion, just shot it from like 30 feet out and it hit nothing but met even though I was pressed so close into this dude that I could have been giving this nikka a lap dance. :mjlol:

If that didnt do it, reality would have set it when I found out the average height of these NBA dudes a few years later :damn:

When nikkas I ran with for a month in gym didn't pick me up for a game.
They was choosing teams and I was at the other end shooting around assuming I had a spot locked. I came over and my man was like "You ain't get picked up yo"....I went "Oh, dam" and just trotted over to the court that had the girls and and bums playing :to:

NYC (but PGH will forever be home)
11th Grade...

11th Grade I went to 5 star Camp and played in the "All-Star" division. I was a 6'4 lanky kid, but I went to an all white private school so I was playing as an undersized 4/5 (and still was somehow the best in the county:mjlol:)

I pull up to camp with dreams of D1 glory.. i wasnt sure about the NBA, but schools like solid schools like UNC and Michigan had to be in play, right?:ld:

They played me as the 2/3. The first couple of plays I did an "adequate' job of staying in front of a Mr. Lenny Cooke. Lucky for me he was clanking 'em that day. He started taking it to the rim so i had to foul, but i wasn't totally embarrass. Then-

Now I remembered this shyt vividly- Raymond Felton passes me the ball into the post. Mind you I had a solid post game... I did a turn around hook and Cooke went up and threw my shyt so hard it interrupt the game next to us- to the sound of 100's of campers and recruiters saying "ooooooooh:ooh:"

Next time down the court, I tried hiding in the corner- but alas, Felton passes me the ball:snoop:. All the defenders were like :smugfavre:. I put the ball on the ground twice , and before I knew it, was going to other way for a dunk...

All my high school teammates would ask me how the camp went and I would reply- "Maybe we should spend more time on the SAT's this fall and less time in the gym :ld:"
