He's definitely lost something to me since 'Death Proof', which had it's flaws, but was funny, and gory, and entertaining, and felt like a real movie....."Inglorious' and 'Django' both felt like parody almost.....I will see 'Hateful 8', maybe even first day, but he's very much a shell of a the guy who made 'Pulp Fiction', and the other classics, for as violent and funny as they were, they felt like real characters, his post 2007 work lacks that feeling of authenticity, feels like going through the motions, nevertheless they remain entertaining.

I watched The Hateful 8 today. My reaction is :francis:

I think he reached his zenith with Kill Bill 2. I really enjoy dialogue in movies, but lately (Inglorious b*stards and Django) he is overdoing it. It's like dude, If I want to read a novel with pages and pages of dialogue, i'll read a book.

I think this style of too much verbiage in a scene started with the Superman Speech in Kill Bill 2. At the time, I found it enjoyable because it was only one scene.... even though at the time, I felt the scene was too long. But then he started to do it even more with Inglorious b*stards starting with the bar scene. I don't feel like that scene needed to be that long. The drinking game should have been much shorter.

Well with Hateful Eight, he went all the way. The movie suffers from way too much dialogue from beginning to end. It's like each character gets to have their moment in the sun to spew minutes long monologues that don't really move the plot forward. I think it takes away from the impact of important monologues.

To be honest, I can't watch his last three movies like I can watch his previous works. I feel like he needs to cut down on the verbiage. I'm watching a movie, not reading a novel. He even admitted to as much in recent interviews. He says he has two more movies left and then he will start writing books because his movies are becoming more and more dense with dialogue.
