I'm sitting here looking at my old man's pics and I see nothing but greasy/shinny hair in his 80's pics.....

At what point in our era did we sit back and and say enough of this?

I see my pops at an engagement party with my mom in the 80's and the grease from his jerry curls have messed up the back of the shirt

He probably thought he was the fliest cat in the room.

probably in the mid 90's. in the early 90's nikkas still had jheri curls, but they called them "texturizers" and what not. like they'd have a curl in their hair, yet get a fade on the side. if you wanna see an example, look at those early jodeci pictures.
