Since 5 i guess. i grew up in Nairobi, in between two slums. No choice but to take initiative and learn what needed to be done. Walked to school, begged for lunch money when i didn't have it, stole some shyt, never touched drugs i would have but one of best homies called Abubakar had his place raided by some cops, didn't want to see the inside of a African prison. Pops was in and out, i remember he decided not pay my school tuition for a year, i stayed home all day and read encyclopedias all teary eyed and shyt saying " ima learn all this shyt leave this place and NEVER COME BACK!!!" i aint been back since.

Felt like too young... sometimes I regret it.
There aren't many things I don't have knowledge of, can't figure out, or accomplish now. I impress myself sometimes with all the things I can manage.
People around me notice, especially foreigners and don't really understand what drives me.

if that's true, respect for that.

as for me, i've pretty much been man of the house since i turned 22. i don't live there, but my parents are old as hell and raising my nephew and niece (my brother and sister now) and i have to help in every way i can. my parents appreciate the help they get, but they didn't have much success instilling those principles in me and my siblings when we were younger . it feels good to help now.

15ISH FOR SOME THINGS. CUTTING THE GRASS WAS BONDING TIME WITH MY GRANDPA SO I KIND OF LOOKED FORWARD TO IT.

Probably not until I moved out the crib. I was the youngest in my family. I used to help my mom out and do chores without her asking when I still lived there, but I wouldn't say I had full grown man perspective until I moved out. I guess it's how you define it.

When I was like 16 my older brother went to jail. I had just got my first job, was spending money on shoes and shyt then I smartened up. Copped a fridge and dryer for my parents, started saving bread. Basically living like I was broke. Took care of chores and really just manned the fukk up.

A lot of dudes seem to not hit this phase. Can't be grown and not cleaning up after ya self. I been self sustaining ever since and honestly I find it that life is easier when you aren't pressed to depend on others to get shyt done

:rudy: since I was like 5 or 6.

If you're asian or south asian or really the child of any immigrants, unless your parents are dumbasses who spoil you they'll have you cleaning up after yourself at the very least, and eventually cleaning for them. I never had a problem with it. They clothe and feed me, and work all day, so the very least I can do is wash dishes, set the table, clean my room, clean the basement, etc.

I don't have respect for any of these lazy a$$holes who expect their mother to do all the chores around the house. Everytime I went over to some white dude's house their parents look at you like :wtf: when you throw away shyt you use, or leave your shoes at the door, or generally have some degree of hygiene.

Atheist for Jesus
I got certain things at certain ages.
Respect - I always had. Never talked up in class or acted a fool, never talked back to my moms (pops was in jail until i was 8)

Work around the house my moms always did, when pops got out that changed. It took 1 solid ass whoopin for things to set in. I still remember taht shyt like yesterday. I had to take the trash can up the drive way to the front so it could get picked up. First time i didn't do it pops said, "strike 1, don't get to strike 3", Strike 2 came, strike 3 came. Pops said if ONE MORE TIME it were to happen I was "out". It happened. Calamity ensued. It never happened again :to:

didn't really "get it" til i had kids of my own
real talk right there. i didn't "get it" all until then. I see a lot of the me in them so when they don some shyt i'm like :snoop:..."i used to do that too".
I learn more from my seed then they'll ever learn from me.

the shyt i love the most though is when they try to pull some slick shyt and i hear what they say and then I remember saying things like that and thinking, "and all this time i thought i was making moves, if i was as transparent as my kids now then :snoop: at my "scheming"

I was pretty stubborn when I was young, hence my username.

I don't really know. I have a very nonchalant personality, and my grandmother lived with us when I was young so she would do a lot of stuff just because she was bored. I always cleaned up after myself, but cleaning up after other people still bothers me. I'm always like, "If we all just washed our own dish after we were done then nobody would have to sit there and do all the damn dishes." :manny:

Even living in a dorm, we didn't have to clean the bathrooms. I think it was when I got an apartment and I noticed shyt piling up. I would clean up after myself and notice that dude would just leave shyt.

But to this day I couldn't believe those kids in undergrad who would have a service do their laundry or have their mom come do it. :smh:

Cats couldn't iron their clothes :birdman:
