Uh, that's exactly my point. Of course a person can say anything, but given the circumstances you quoted, appealing to gender over race wouldn't make much sense in this scenario.

It does if you're familiar with how this country has moved since it became America. His wife and daughters will catch it from both sides from sexists and racists. I don't necessarily agree with what he's saying, but him being Black doesn't mean he knows better. Being Black, he may not be expected to say what he said, but he did. There's a lot of Black people are strong advocates of feminism and would uphold the statement Jay made.
