as far as i'm concerned, there is no better movie than the godfather 1 and 2

yeah no doubt, full respect to brando, but the godfather trilogy is really michaels journey.

You can view it that way or you can view it that it was Vito's family and his sons changed their life and lost their ways compared to how he rose to power. He did it because he got bullied and they killed and ravaged his brothers/father/mother...so he went in that direction to protect his family and avenge his father later. Michael and Fredo succumbed to selfishness, in fighting, and lust for power. Michael turned on every value he had and let this thing get so BIG in his life that he actually killed his brother to keep "la cosa nostra" going. AN EPIC fall from grace from a man who was in the military and was content.

Anyway, I know praising The Godfather isn't anything mind blowing or high brow, but I feel there's no such thing as beating the point into the ground when it comes to that. I've said to people before that if you took out all of the guns, murder and gangster elements in the first one it would still be a masterpiece and I stand by that. Michael's transformation is the greatest I've ever seen in a movie. I've always said The Sopranos wasn't about organized crime but more about family (and juggling two very different ones). That was influenced strongly by The Godfather. The door closing on Kate as Michael is anointed at the every end of the first movie is one of the strongest visuals in cinema for me.
