:sas1: They are building a better case for privatization than I ever imagined... not sure why I didnt just sit back and let them argue it for me :banderas:
I said this shyt in another thread. This will be another nail in the coffin of unions. When people need to speak up they shut the fuk up, when they should shut the fuk up, or at least really take into account what they are saying they don't. Gotta love amercia.

:what: Moron that accomplished similar to a dog getting a piece of his master's steak thrown at him to keep him happy.....:camby:
so voting and having the ability to change your government with 15 minutes of your time is like a dog getting a piece of the masters steak? You ignorant fuk that's like a dog getting the ultimate say in what's being had for dinner.

We justhave some dumb as fuk dogs not participating or using that power. THEN those same dogs want to get all upset about shyt.

I don't know that they're proving anything other than that they are acting like children.
Let's hold off on saying they are proving anything until we get some more data. A week's worth of no cops is hardly proof of anything.

Give it a few months, if shyt stays cool then yup, it was a farce.
If things get worse...well...
would you put it past cops to wear plainclothes and do fukk shyt on purpose tho? we already know they do this at big protests

NYC Murder Rate Drops To New Historic Low In 2014

In January of 2014, NYC's murders increased from 21 to 28, leading Republican mayoral candidate/loser Joe Lhota to say "told ya so." But by the end of 2014, progressive Mayor Bill de Blasio has this statistic: 328 murders for the year, the lowest since the NYPD started keeping track in 1963.

Other crimes are also down: Grand larcenies, rapes, burglaries and robberies, which the NY Times calls "a bellwether crime that erodes public perception of safety." NYPD deputy commissioner of operations Dermot Shea said, "Across the board in all categories — kids on kids, elderly victims, commercial robberies, group wolf pack robberies, robberies of Apple iPhones — down."

De Blasio praised the NYPD and its new additions during a police cadet graduation ceremony earlier this week: "You are joining a police department that, last year, had the most extraordinary year in fighting crime - a legendary year, a year that they said couldn't be beat. But this year - 2014 - this NYPD beat the record. Crime is down almost 5 percent compared to last year. That is an achievement for the ages, and you will be part of a team that has surpassed every expectation, that has gone farther than anyone has gone before."

But as the Times points out, "[T]here is little celebration among the city’s police officers, who remain in mourning after the recent killings of two comrades. They have also heard calls to reverse their policing practices and found their union representatives locked in a bitter public struggle with the mayor..."

The police are reportedly not doing their job—a.k.a., making arrests or giving summons—as part of their retaliation against de Blasio, which has led to an actual Times editorial saying cops need to get back to work.

Another Plane Flies With Anti-De Blasio Banner

A retired NYPD detective and a retired Correction officer paid $1,000 for a plane to fly with an anti-Mayor Bill de Blasio message yesterday. Yes it's deja vu again!

Last week, a plane with the banner "DE BLASIO, OUR BACKS HAVE TURNED TO YOU" traveled over the Hudson River, on the same day as the wake for slain officer Rafael Ramos.

While no one took credit for hiring the plane, former cop John Cardillo explained, "As a large and unified group of current and retired NYC Police Officers, Detectives, & Supervisors, we are outraged by the mayor’s incendiary rhetoric, and for facilitating the current hostile climate towards the NYPD. We understand that the department and even our own unions can only go so far in their public condemnation of the mayor as to not irreparably damage the working relationship with the city, or future contract negotiations." (Police captains have since been admonished for turning their backs on the mayor at Ramos' funeral, as it caused pain to Ramos' family.)

For yesterday's plane, WABC 7 reports, "Retired Correction Officer Michael Sheehan and his father, a retired NYPD detective, hired the plane to fly over the Hudson River Wednesday afternoon."

Sheehan told the Daily News, "I hope [de Blasio is] embarrassed by it" and also blasted the mayor's relationship with "the circus clown, race-baiter and proven liar Mr. Alfred Sharpton."

honestly...no i wouldn't put it past some cops.

I could also see a lot of cops getting laid off and having the cops that were already crooked go all in on the crime side of things.

My thoughts at the moment -
  • It's very telling that life is still going on as normal for NYC residents and says a lot about the necessity (or lack thereof) of most arrests. Like other people have said, cops motives for arresting people are usually to fill quotas (even if they're not official), generate revenue, and because they generally tend to be the types to go on power trips.
  • These cops sound like a bunch of spoiled brats and anybody refusing to do their job over some BS should be fired.
  • In fact, I'd say this "strike" should be used as a justification to get rid of a lot of cops. This makes it very clear that there are more cops than necessary to protect the public interest. Since they don't seem to want to work anyway, give em the pink slip and save taxpayers some money.
  • This pretty much destroys the whole "broken windows" theory of policing

They thought crime was going to get worse if you let people live freely, but instead, crime is even better! Now, they have no proof that all the civil rights violations were necessary. Like you wrote, by not doing their jobs properly, they actually proved you don't need them like that. Times are different now. People are more educated, and have more better lives in this country, so the stress which causes crime, is not there, and that means a more peaceful city. If any thing it's the police that helped add to the little stress that is around, and now we have proof of it.

The people have made up their minds about wanting better, and moving on from the old way, and now the police have to comply because they are looking like the odd balls right now. And the ones who think backwards like some of them.

So arrests and citations plummeted, and the world didn't end. Could that mean that most of those arrests/citations were unnecessary for society to function?

This same shyt happened in LA when Chris Dorner did his thing back in 2012. Cops get scared and respectful when people bust back.

I don't think they want people to put two and two together, but yeah. And yeah.
