Man, shut your dumb ass up.

She was belting songs that she wrote/produced and had the voice for.....same thing with Ariana. I was also alive when she debuted and the simple fact is that she was targeted to disco/post-disco audiences because that was the 'pop-music' and 'mainstream' of the time......just like this lady when 'Neo-Soul/New Jack Swing' was poppin'......

I DO know what I'm talking about, so fukk you.

Have a nice day.

The Land That Time Forgot
People retarded. They don’t know basic geography. Italians are Mediterraneans like Spaniards, Greeks, Southern French, etc. It’s hot in Italy. Their skin can range from olive to as dark as an Arab. She may be using fake spray tan like a lot of white girls do or her skin could very well be changing based on the amount of sun she’s getting.

50 years of broken families and bad school systems is beginning to have an effect on knowledge, along
with being dependent on Smartphones/Dumbphones and anti-social media.

For those of us raised in NYC, we saw "dark Italians" all the time.

Back in the day, there were some games when the Mets' Lee Mazzilli, who was from Brooklyn and is of
Italian/Sicilian descent) would be mistaken fo being a "black" Latino ball player. He was also super fast then.

Actor Nick Turturro is another Brooklyn Italian/Sicilian, known for playing aggressive Italians
in Spike Lee films.

:youngsabo: One moment [INSERT GROUP] is complaining about their contributions to American culture not being recognized........next moment complaining about being exploited when a non-group member reflects their contributions

How much more evidence do we need that too many folks are delusional and get off on feeling empowered by having something to complain about
They feed off on your reaction to their complaint, thus the more addicted they become to feeling empowered
Legit and non-legit complaints are purposely mixed/blurred by these type of folks so to easily manipulate those of us more concerned with pushing narratives, than wanting to fairly judge within context

Teena did black club circuits in Los Angeles during the late 70s before Berry picked her up, her and her group weren't doing no fukking laced disco..that woman was belting R&B for BLACK audiences.

Facts.

Teena debuts in 1979, so by that time the "disco craze" is over. Her music was only played on black radio.

This is before BET and MTV, so we really didn't have any idea what she looked like via music videos.

When Frankie Crocker played "I Need Your Lovin" on WBLS, nobody knew Teena was white. No one cared
because it was all about the MUSIC in those days -- whether the sound hit you, or it didn't.

Not surprised

Her label and the people around her told her to do this, to get attention from all angles and try to make her appeal to everyone for their own greed..

Yeah, she probably wanted to get a tan, but these label executives brainwashed these artist to be something they not to get the backin of blacks

Look at the likes of kid rock, Justin timberlake and others who come in get the backin of blacks and collect black ideas and money and then flipped that money into their own community and people..... we as blacks sit back and let shyt go time after time getting butt fukked...

exactly...you have managers, promoters, label execs, producers, photographers all eating GREAT off of this girls career, sending their kids through college and all that - yet black folks once again get shyt on and left outside.

and I know there are music industry cats on this forum, come out of hiding and keep it 100: these music producers and recording engineers are egging on her "blaccent" and "street" inflections in her music

there's too much money riding it to just be left up to some little kid to do what they want in the booth...they orchestrate all this shyt, none of this is organically her.

that's bc it's a music BUSINESS discussion, the way they're going about their BUSINESS is racist and exploitative

this is not a discussion about her actual music fam...separate the two.

ariana grande's handlers are smart- they are culturally knowledgeable enough to stick italian culture to hispanic culture and present the similarities of both as latin and make her face brown enough to make sure her actual origins and her fake ass origins collerate you know.

plenty of sicilians/italian cacs when darker look like cubans/PRs/Dominicans....so its a winning strategy. And actual Latins actually colonized hispania/lusitania(aka actual spain and portugal) with human capital. So much that historians speculated that roman empire italy was populated of semitic blood people only 1 century after the Lord Jesus Christ. In the New Testament. Paul referred to Hebrews in the flesh....probably the descendents of Semites in Europe/Roman Italy.

This is utterly false, sir. Teena was being played on AM ('White') radio at that time since that's all my mom's car had (1972 Chevy Nova).

Also, disco didn't 'die' until the early/mid-80's. The whole 'Disco is Dead' thing came to a head in 1979, but there were still disco songs being made and played on regular rotation. Hell, Chic's Good Times came out in 1979 and that's a perfect example of the 'disco craze' NOT being over when Teena debuted.
