I always vote in local elections whenever I get the chance. They can be just as, if not more, consequential than national elections. A few months ago here in Austin TX, there was a vote whether or not the camping ban should be re-instated. Our city council has been buying hotels to as a solution to house the homeless population. I support these efforts to house them and get some services/resources for those who are of enough sound mind to try to get themselves back on their feet, but I have no interest in Austin becoming the next San Francisco, so I voted for the re-instatement of the camping ban. The re-instatement ban passed. Even more recently, there was a proposition to increase police funding. I voted no, especially because the bill was written in a way that would've guaranteed that police funding could never be reduced by local means. Eventually, police funding would've eaten into the budgets of other departments/services. This proposition failed by a large margin.
