i think the seeder jockey who drank the black goo is supposed to represent the mythology of prometheus. he may have been marooned on earth and given black goo to kill himself as his punishment the way that zeus punished prometheus by chaining him to a rock and sending an eagle to eat his eternally re growing liver every day.

we dont know why he was punished by them but by analogy to the myth of promotheus he may have been punished for trying to spread life or teach technology to already existing life inter galactically the way prometheus was trying to benefit man by giving him the technology of fire

the duality of zeus and prometheus suggests by analogy that this duality exists in the engineer species too. that is, that there is a life-supressing zeus caste, and a life-promoting prometheus caste at war with each other.

Have no idea fam. Someone suggested that the goo doesn't do one particular thing, and that it mutates differently based on its host. That wasn't Holloway rampaging BTW, it was the mohawk guy whose face got metled by the acid/goo. Honestly I would've liked some rhyme or reason as to why mutations occur as they do I think the reality is that the writers needed a alien/octopus so they made it do that. When they needed a zombie/mutant it made the black goo do that, etc.

He didn't know what would happen, but Weyland instructed him to test it out to see if it had any effects. Weyland simply cred about not dying, and if that substance could help, he wanted David to push harder and actually try it on a living test subject

i dont see him being marooned. in the 2nd hologram, there seems to be multiple galaxaies that had planets with life sustaining capabilites, earth was singled out because thats what david was familiar with.
