i mean, i fantasize about shyt all the time, but i highly doubt that working the creative powers of my mind causes me to feel any differently about myself when compare to how the average individual thinks of him or herself. besides, i don't have ridiculous fantasies either. usually the things i think about are achievable...

Narcissists are usually raised by bad parents. It usually a combination of or restricted to parents who overindulged their children and ironically enough, parents who didn't pay enough attention to them. My parents did a great job of not only giving me enough self esteem/efficacy to succeed in any environment but also let me know that I'm not the most important person in the world and should strive to help others. So no, I'm not a narcissist. :youngsabo:

:mjpls: The funny thing is, some of you are probably proud of being narcissists. It's actually a personality flaw

it's hard to tell a person within a society that emphasizes individuality and self indulgence that focusing on yourself in a bad thing. if that's the manner your society is constructed in, you're rewarded for adhering to it's beliefs...

:aicmon: Narcissism isn't defined as focusing on yourself. There's nothing wrong with working to improve yourself before you improve others

nar·cis·sism [nahr-suh-siz-em] Show IPA
noun
1.
inordinate fascination with oneself; excessive self-love; vanity.

No society can justify Narcissism. It is a flaw, anyone who tells you that TRUE narcissism is ok or acceptable is full of shyt. If you raise a narcissist then (More than likely, accepting some rare cases) you've failed as a parent

i mean, i still don't see why you gave me the :aicmon: and shyt. of course it's an unreasonable fascination with oneself, that doesn't change a damn thing i said. if society places special attention on focusing on yourself, an unreasonable amount, and rewards you for it, more people won't see the problem with it regardless if in the grand scheme of things it's a personality flaw.

sometimes i don't even know why you fukkers bother quoting people and attempting to correct them when you didn't even understand what i was talking about in the first place. i mean, did you really think i didn't know what narcissism is?

:

I know you might not be, but it sounds like you're trying to justify it. America is a developed country/society, thus people are usually higher on Maslow's Hierachy of Needs in this society, just like in most developed countries. As opposed to third world nations, there is more focus on individual aspects like Self Esteem and self actualization, one doesn't need to be a narcissist in order to have the former or achieve the latter. I do agree that there is more focus on the individual in a country like the US, but I don't think there's anyone (at least a reasonable/normal person) who wouldn't see a problem with narcissism.

This

And Ive day dreamed about doing things last year that I actually ended up accomplishing recently. Those accomplishments weren't too crazy but in right direction. Its good to have dreams, it fuels ambition.

I know I'm a narcissist

Cuz im the shyt :manny:

Confidence doesn't equal narcissism. I've never had a challenge in my life that I didn't believe I couldn't meet, and pretty much everything I've failed at I realize that it's because I didn't put enough time/effort in to it. That's because I believe in myself and have high self efficacy, but that doesn't make me a narcissist. I think the reason so many people think that it's a positive trait/something to joke about is because they don't truly know what it means. True narcissists are profoundly unhappy with themselves and are the worst kind of 'friends' to have if they can really be called friends at all.

Nah, people think it's a joke/positive because every nikka who took a psychologist class thinks they are qualified to call any person with an amount of confidence that they don't have/like a narcissist. (Not a shot at you in anyway)

Term has been watered down so much. It doesn't mean anything. People will treat it as such.
