Bryan is better on every level..every single level. There was a illusion of them.being close back in early 2013 but Bryan stayed top notch and Punk cried so much he fell off. Fans got sick of his shyt too because they wanted Bryan more at the Slammys, Summerslam 2013, and at Rumble 2014. Punk had the pipe bomb headstart and 4th wall breaking gimmick but Bryan, a legit talent, outsustained all of that. It's like the Eddie/Angle argument...Angle was good and was even legit after copying Benoit heading into 2001 but Eddie was better, crisper, and eventually a bigger than life super face...much bigger than the Angle 2001 and 03 runs.

Is Bryan better than The Rock though? :mjlit:

Bryan. Punk is Tier 1 with his mic game, but he mails it in when he’s not across a bigger name. See: His matches with The Shield.

Where as Bryan isn’t AS good, he can hold his own in promos and is miles better in the ring
In Punks defense those matches with the Shield wasn't he sick from all the Z-paks lol

D-Bry for me easily, and I do like Punk. Psychology wise Bryan is one of the best ever to me. Overall I enjoy his matches more. Dude made me like a damn Sheamus match (ER 2012) :pachaha:

Outside of maybe promo wit, think Bryan is better in everything else.

First off: pause.

Secondly: Bryan and it isn't even close. Honestly, I bet if you asked Punk himself who the best was in the E when they were there together, dude woulda said Bryan.

That being said, the distinction itself is kinda meta if you think about it. Punk's whole shtick was the Lil Wayne play - say you're the best, ad nauseum and with no self-awareness to the contrary until people just... accept that you're the best because you said it all the time. Bryan was the type to go out there and prove it by showing the people you're the best. You'll fly unnoticed for a while until people with the benefit of hindsight go back, look at what you've done and drop that Keanu 'woah'.

Punk got beloved for the story of how he was told he wouldn't make it because reasons and his rebellion against it... but like... Bryan lived the story Punk summarized. Dude came into the E being shat on with Michael Cole literally screaming on commentary that this guy couldn't talk, he was beloved by idiot internet fans, and he didn't have what it took. He persisted. He got forced to retire early because WWE didn't want to clear him, and they let Miz go out there and bury dude on Talking Smack knowing they weren't going to greenlight an angle for it - which is counter-intuitive to how wrestling logic is meant to work: you don't present something you don't plan to ever pay off because it just makes Bryan look shytty.

Dude comes back and manages to find a way to turn himself heel despite him being a beloved babyface who had to retire and worked to come back because he loves what he does - and not only did he manage it, but he actually leaned in to being a heel despite everyone wanting so badly to love him.

In the meantime, Punk has had issues with the company for a lot of reasons, but his petulance about his position in the company - while warranted - in retrospect looks pretty bad considering he could talk his ass off, but CM Punk was not a good wrestler. And in an era where the top guy wasn't a great worker either... welp. Anyways, dude dipped because fukk the company, and even now seems happier without it despite failing in other places. (For what it's worth, if I had to bet on an MMA fight between Punk and Bryan tomorrow... I'm about 60% sure Punk gets tapped out inside round 1.)

Punk is where he should be - talking somewhat cynically and directly into the camera about WWE and it's faults. It's what endeared him to the fanbase; it's where he needs to be.

Bryan is where he should be - in the ring, wrestling. Going from heel to face and all the places inbetween. It's what endeared him to the fanbase; it's where he needs to be.

If there was someone with Bryan's work/work-ethic and Punk's mic skills/self-promotion... that's be a great wrestler. Shame that person would 100% be in UFC, though.

I go back to when he was in ROH he was by far that dude.... it was like him, Joe, Homicide and Aries, Nigel where like the core 5 and next would probably be Briscoes.

Bryan is dope but always saw him under that group, I think he gets a little overrated.

Truth be told though, if I had to over name someone who is the best out of all them ROH/TNA guys.

It’s probably AJ Styles and it’s not even close. A lot of guys have shown they are great at the little stuff they do. But AJ has always been the best at practically everything. He can do a great submission slow match or he can do a great insane flippy match

He’s great as a heel and a face

I'd go Joe 1, AJ 1A, almost solely because Joe can be a great face and a great heel while literally changing nothing about his moveset/character outside of the context of what he's doing. Dude's character does not need to change at all to go from heel to face, and I respect the fukk out of that. Plus. Him literally cracking cuh's skull in that one match gonna live forever.

AJ is a generational talent... that could only really exist in this generation. Joe coulda been in Memphis/Mid-South/Smoky Mountain/Crockett/AJPW/NJPW/AEW and dude would work, partly because he can promo someone's soul out of their body, and partly just because the Lightning Bruiser 'big guy who can move' thing is timeless and undeniable.

(Can we talk for a moment about how sad it is that Joe never ended up chasing the NEVER? Ishii/Joe at WK woulda been flames)

Bryan has had the longest prime out of any North American performer I've ever seen. GOAT

I can’t disagree with that and I actually did take Joe into STRONG consideration.

But I think I put AJ ahead off what you just literally stated.

Yea Joe is great and he doesn’t really have to change his style.

But AJ can.

He can wrestle a certain style with Brock, then switch it with BD, then switch it with Joe, then switch it with Nakumara, then switch it with Okada, then flip it with Ricochet, then flip it with Kurt Angle, flip it with Chris Daniels, then Cena, then Sting, then Aries, then Lo Ki, then Homicide, then Jay Briscoes and so on and so on.

Every match unquestionably and uniquely different in their own right and all epic to great matches.

AJ is just as natural and smooth on the ground and striking as he is when doing corkscrew flips and 420.
