I went to the dentist the other week, and both the assistant and the doc gave me the :wtf: face when I said I hadn't been to a doctor in like 3 years, and that I didn't have a 'family' doctor.

Idk, I'm early 30s and healthy, I don't see the point of getting a checkup for no reason.

If you don't go to the doctor, why are you going to the dentist?

I mean, I get my regular cleanings and all that. I guess I just dont see that as 'going to the doctor.'. Its not like the dentist is giving you a check-up.

at my spot the dentist does the exam (reading xrays, checking for cavities) and procedures. cleanings are done by hygienists.
mess around and have 2 different appointments if i don't get it scheduled together
they won't even give me a cleaning if i am not up to date on exams.

I used to be like you. From 19-32 I didn’t have a pcp. Got hurt in a motorcycle accident and a female friend accompanied me to the ER. When she found out my no health insurance situation she helped me get on track.

Just get in the habit of yearly physicals with bloodwork. Certain states have health insurance options if you don’t want to go through an employer, or if you’re self employed.

It's basically the same concept. Your dentist catches if you have cavities or not, how to improve, etc.

Scheduling regular dr appts is the same, because they can catch things early in your bloodwork, blood pressure, etc.

but I get it ... some people go years without seeing a dentist instead. That's just as crazy.

A lot of "healthy" people drop dead/receive diagnosis' every day. Just because you look healthy doesn't mean you are healthy

I had a coworker who ate healthy, ran/worked out every day. She was in her early thirties when she was diagnosed with breast cancer

After getting through that, she ended up getting some other kind of cancer a few years later

In both instances, her doctors caught it early. She's still here 10+ years later

Hell yeah I go to the doctor on the regular :dahell:

That's what I pay insurance for.

I get tests done just because I wanna know. I like knowing I'm healthy.

Black men dying every day because they don't go to the doctor. You should go at least once a year for your annual check up. You should also get your blood pressure checked a few times a year as a black man over the age of 35 or so. A lot of Walgreens and CVS stores have free blood pressure checks you can schedule.

Finding a good PCM is hard but when you find one, hold on to him/her. A lot of doctors run their office like the trap and do the basic shyt and move down the hall to their next client.

Dentist every 6 months and annual physical/check-up should be the bare minimum
