I'm all for nostalgia, but it stops with tape technologies whether it be casettes, VHS, etc. It was flawed at the time. There was no warmth of analog sound like you find with wax records. They were compromised technologies. Plus they degrade over time. If I want something i can only get in VHS, I usually convert it to digital. I know there are high quality digital tapes, but even they have the seek and degradation problems.

There is a very good documentary about VHS tapes and the people who collect them. I think it's called Rewind This and it might be on Hulu

My local library has a massive selection of VHS's. Is it a waste of time to rent these in an era of Blu-Ray rips?
If you have a VHS player, why not. It's free.
There are a lot of movies where the writing and acting make the movie.
In highly special effects/CG movies, like Avatar and Transformers, you'll want to watch it on DVD or Blu-ray.
