Are there as many generation defining games as there were last gen? (Not to me)

I will preface this by saying that I haven't played nearly the amount of games this generation that I did last gen, but outside of Elden Ring there doesn't seem to be nowhere near the amount of generation defining games as last gen. Last gen had RDR2, Last of us 2, Witcher 3, GOW, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Resident Evil 2 as generational games. I just don't see that level of greatness yet outside of those 2 games I mentioned (also would put resident evil 4 up there). I'm currently playing Metaphor Refantazio which I think is a great 9/10 game but is it generational like persona or? So far it's not to me.

What do y'all think?Just looking for opinion and not arguments. I'm not saying Elden Ring isn't on those games levels or that there isn't maybe 3 games on that level, but as a whole I don't think there are as many. We still have some time, but damn...

The games I highlighted in bold are all games that came out after the 5 year mark of the PS4 after 2017.
RDR2 was 2018, TLOU2 2020, GOW 2018, Horizon 2017, Persona 2017, Seikro 2019 and RE2 2019.

These games would be releasing this year and after if we were to be in the PS4 gen right now.

When people are comparing this gen to last gen, they're forgetting that some of the best games of the gen all came during the second half the generation. We're already past 4 years of this gen and we got classics like FFVII Rebirth, Cyberpunk, Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Astrobot, Wukong, Metaphor, HD2 etc.

This year we got GTA VI, DS2, Yotei and more. Never mind the games that haven't had solid release dates yet as well as the games still slated up to 2028?

This gen is easily on par. Last gen we didn't even get a GTA game. Intergalactic and TLOU 3 possibly will be on PS5. The next God of War may release this gen. Persona 6 is still slated, next RE game and then all those games like Okami 2, Onimusha, Ueda's next game Project Robot, Witcher 4, Project Orion(Cyberpunk 2). The 3rd part for the FFVII Remake is going to be on PS5.

This gen will most likely be seen as better than last gen within a few years.

All these games came out in the 2nd half of the generation. Wait until this one is over

we’ve already had cyberpunk, BG3, Elden Ring, etc.

Isn't cyberpunk last gen?

Thanks for renewing my faith. I think GTA VI will definitely change things up.

I wouldn't say last Generation had Generation defining games. It wasn't bad but it felt like my games were split between between the PS3 and PS5.

When you go to the Switch, it's breakthrough game is on the Wii U.

The 9th generation feels like the 16 bit era in the sense that they've polished the vision. Switch = balance between Home System and hand held. PS5 = stabilising performance and removing load times.

Generation defining, I'd go with Ratchet and Clank, Astro Bot and Rebirth.
