I don't think the Lakers will be a serious threat until they address their frontcourt issues. This postseason they'll be able to get some valuable time together as a unit (for a series or two), and then hope to run it back next season with a more balanced squad.

Yes, we are.

The whole “not having a premier center” aspect was overstated. As I've mentioned before you don't need an all-time big man just to win a championship if all the other pieces are clicking, you just need a serviceable big who can do the “nooks and crannies” on offense and defense, which Hayes has proven he can do that.

Outside of the Bucks, Nuggets, and Celtics, seven of the last ten NBA champions did not have elite big men. Boston might not even count in that regard as having an elite big because KP was pretty much injured for most of that Postseason run.

The only real threat in the West is OKC. Denver is a sleeper, but this isn't the same Nugget team as the previous two seasons that invoked fear, while Houston and Memphis aren't trustworthy come playoff time because of their youth and inexperience.

Warriors, Clippers, Kings, and T-Wolves aren't even in the picture in terms of being someone to watch out for in the Postseason. Dallas might not even make it, depending on Kyrie, who now might be out for the rest of the season.

no one in the west scares Lakers in 7 game series.

leaves Boston or Cleveland who have size on the inside.. but Lakers have elite size on the perimeter.. and in both series Bron and Luka will have the higher IQ..

still though would be better with a starter quality center . next year gon be something ..

No. The Lakers don’t have enough size and LeBron will be gassed in the 2nd half just like last year.

I will tell you what, they do look like a serious opponent now. But their front court is weak, like you need something out there to go against best bigs in the league. Even Dallas had couple decent bigs to do their thing. I don't trust someone like Jaxson Hayes in the playoffs. Interesting that the absence of AD has now made the rest of the team try more on defense where back with AD some players were half assing, due to him anchoring the defense,

Also having Luka, one of the elite playmakers on the team, has given Bron some energy to actually try on the defense again.

Even if let's say the Lakers beat some weaker opponents or injured squads in the playoffs and get to the actual finals, the Cavs and Celtics would be too strong for them. If they get some decent bigs in offseason and run it back with same squad, they could be one of title contender favorites.
