But how in the fukk could this work? The trench is cool and all but expecting it to be a 2 hour movie? How in the hell do you do that without aquaman? Mera? His moms?

Pretty easy movie to make actually.
Potential story: A horror movie set in a small fishing village where a cluster of The Trench come to the surface and begin feeding on the populace.
Have the local sheriff and a visiting marine biologist be the leads and the movie makes itself.

Yes, but the problem is DC execs clearly don't realize what made Aquaman such a big hit. The reason the movie did monster numbers in China is because it's a sprawling fantasy adventure about a king and a princess trying to reclaim the throne. China eats that kind of stuff up.

So unless this Trench movie is a tragedy about how the old king and queen got corrupted, and we follow a young adventurer's quest to try (but ultimately fail) to save the kingdom, this shyt will not nearly make as big a dent in China box office than Aquaman did.

Its not supposed to be Aquaman though. Its not supposed to be a tentpole superhero movie at all from the article. What it sounds like is that James Wan liked the Trench as monsters so he wanted to produce a monster movie with them in it.

Saw Aquaman last night and The Trench scene was amazing but a whole movie outta them? Why?

Unless they make it like Jaws or a mystery creature in the ocean movie, Idk how this would work.
