Far too many open questions here. They haven't really answered anything during this season... The showrunners are going to be feel real dumb if this gets cancelled before season 2 airs

Started this Monday night, caught up last night and watched the newest episode when it dropped midnight on Apple TV+. This show is good. There's so much fukkery (it can be dark comedy at times), and the show does a great job of getting it's viewers to theorize what's really going on. Is the show supernatural? In that sense this show reminds me of Mr. Robot that did the same thing. I wish this show had/gain more traction. Me, and my family really into the show. Apple got one.

I was trying not to type any big spoilers. So some parts below may seem vague, or super brief as a result. I may tell you the what (well, some of the whats), but (to avoid spoilers) i didn't tell you the why, how, or who on some things.

It's about a Philadelphia couple. A woman named Dorothy, and a man named Sean whose baby died in an accident. Dorothy has some sort of mental block about it (it's pretty much explained in season 1 episode 9, great episode). The dead baby was replaced with a doll. Since Dorothy is mentally not all there she truly see's the doll as her real baby (alive of coarse).

Dorothy decided she wanted a nanny for the doll (again, Dorothy thinks the baby is alive, and real) Sean just rolls with it because he cares about her well being, and the truth might send her off the deep end. They hire this girl named Leanne. We learn more, and more about her as the show progresses. She may, or may not be a special character who is more important, and plays a bigger role in all this than is let on (at least) in the beginning.

The show seems to have a biblical undertone to it as well. There's more questions than answers, but it makes for great discussions each week on what's next to come, or "is this the answer we've been looking for that was subliminally placed in this weeks episode" There's a lot of symbolism that leads many to believe there's something bigger picture going on. A big twist that has yet to be revealed.

This subreddit has so many discussions, and theories. Makes me want to re-watch and see what i can find that went over my head the first time.

Me and the people i'm watching with was loss af after our first watch of season 1, and up to the latest episode. Then i hit up reddit and read all the theories people posted. A lot of them made me go :ohhh:

Here's one of the theories i read (it's long) i pulled from reddit (for anybody else do not read unless you're caught up to latest episode) :
Here is my theory at this point..... It was not God’s plan for Dorothy to have a child. Multiple miscarriages, trouble at end of pregnancy which she overcame with bed rest which was challenged by a fire and falling on the stairs. Ultimately she lost Jericho at 13 weeks. Even Jericho’s sleeper has “this little piggy” embroidered on it. (This little piggy went to market and was slaughtered!)

My theory is that Dorothy did indeed commit suicide by hanging with her Hermes belt beside the crib. When we see Dorothy shaking and grasping at her neck and face perhaps this is not the moment of her psychotic break, but is actually Dorothy hanging her self. And Julian arrives to discover his sister deceased and hanging by the crib containing his deceased and partially decomposed nephew. Is there a shadow on the wall? Is the mobile symbolic of a the hanging? The strands left behind when Sean removes the cross? When we see her next, she is in the same bed and position as the scenes of her bed rest. Did her spirit return there?

I KNOW! M.Night Shyamalan would not do the “they don’t know they are dead” thing again. Which is why I know my theory is wrong. But hear me out!! It is just a theory.

Dorothy’s newscasts once included covering a standoff between police and a cult. But she now only covers fluff pieces. There is a gap in her DVD collection of newscasts. Perhaps she passed away years ago. Bright light appears to cause her to dissociate. Is it the bright light of the beyond?

Sean creates food that is pretty gruesome, loses his sensory abilities, burns himself and is not healing. Is he also dead, or is he experimenting with what death is like and considering killing himself? He feeds Leanne these creations and tries to make unappetizing items and combinations into sweet delicacies. But no one is impressed. Themes of rotting, unnatural, off...are really prominent. Even Sean seams to be rotting. But his denial and focus on presentation are strong at this point. He is a professional bon vivant after all.

I am leaning towards Sean and Julian being alive, and Dorothy deceased. Sean and Julian are coping with her not realizing she is dead.

Julian talking about the end of the universe and realizing there is no wall there-is he talking about no wall between life and death?

Dorothy is in some sort of limbo state at the house. Dorothy only “leaves” when a car comes for her. Julian and Sean don’t want her to leave the house in the most recent episode.

Hell is literally opening up to take them in the basement. No one seems surprised or concerned about this!!!! I am not sure what roll the wine cellar represents. But it is important. Trying to preserve themselves?

Enter Leanne. She admires Dorothy and wants her to have a second chance. She resurrects Jericho. May and the Uncle know that Leanne has gone against God’s plan and try to set things right. Leanne decides Dorothy is not worthy of a second chance. Are May and the Uncle actually good guys?? Trying to lead Dorothy and Sean to God.

Leanne assists Dorothy with a blocked milk duct. She gets the symbolic mother’s milk flowing again. I feel like the moment with the pearl necklace was a potential moment for Leanne to also resurrect Dorothy , but she chooses not to. She consumes a pearl—like the droplets of mother’s milk Sean is experimenting with in the kitchen. (It’s vintage!)

Dorothy appears to have found God. But as we hear during her phone call while bed ridden, she does not hesitate to insincerely say “God bless you all” to her viewers before immediately demonstrating that her priority is confirming that the segment was recorded.

Leanne leaves. Jericho is un-resurrected. Dorothy (and perhaps Sean) refuses to accept the circumstances and cross over - because who wants to go to hell?! Sean rescues the doll from the trash in the hopes that it can become Jericho again.

Roscoe and Natalie—I haven’t figured them out. And the shoes. Strong use of shoes. Dorothy’s most recent pair were very hoof-like!! And putting your feet up—Dorothy, the police......Hmmm....

I am interested to see if the cancer patient at Leanne’s new home passes away or thrives. She is a very kind woman. Is Leanne there to resurrect/heal her?

Love how Dorothy says “ I found you” just as the Uncle and May wrote in the card.
It's just a theory. No way of really telling if it's where they're headed with the show but i'm intrigued:ehh:

A lot of holes in this theory, especially because even the pizza boy/helper also interacts with Dorothy when attempting to kidnap leanne, but all interesting theories...

M. Night just going off the deep end again to me. Which is why i like his movies better than this show (some of his movies tho... like Unbreakable, Signs, 6th Sense, etc., some of them are legit trash).

The latest episode was the weakest of the series thus far. They do need to start answering certain things. They’re either going to pull a Lost, or a Mr. Robot in terms of that.

Did you say six seasons? :mjtf::picard:

Now i love the show and all but I can’t help but :russ: at the thought of the writers giving us the viewers the run around for six seasons. I’d be out at 3 in a half in that case.:russ:
