I've seen this dog and pony show before.

Fake outrage from politicians while the cameras are on and then they probably are shaking hands with Cook to congratulate him in private. Meanwhile, no actual policy is altered and these loop holes continue to exist. Repeat cycle.

Paul is absolutely right on one thing he said: This is Congress' fault, not Apple's

do you respect how they treat their foreign employees?

How would foreign employers treat foreign workers?? That system is already there... apple wouldn't be alleviating any pain by not employing those workers. If not for apple disenfranchising them, some foreign factory owner would.. or worse... a company from another country in the West that has even less respect for human rights would. Our companies at least have to make sure people have water and don't die.. so that human rights group will stay out their ass.

So in this situation everyone wins.. some lose. Apple remains profitable and those workers get paid a little more than they would, with jobs that otherwise wouldn't be there.. their daughters might not have to sell p*ssy to (ironically) American business men on 'work trips'.

honestly I'm a socialist... but I'm like China at heart.. this is the world we live in.. if capitalism is the way to make a profit and every other system is embargoed or cut off.. then fukk it... just give no fukks n make the cash.. then justify it.

A socialist defending a company which makes a select few obscenely rich, all off the sweat of people who get paid pennies.

How interesting.

Not defending.. just explaining the reality. If it were up to me, Apple would be partial owned by US and some of those billions would cycle through social programs like early childhood education. Billions from other companies would support single payer health care like the military has with tricare.

Tricare is ass. I wouldn't wish that coverage on my worst enemy. If thats the best the government can do for America's "heros" they should be ashamed. But, lets not derail the thread to bad.

Back on track, your original claim was that you respected Apple's hustle. Now it seems your talking out of both sides of your mouth. Do you though. :yeshrug:

On one hand, these companies owe a huge debt to America because they would not be able to succeed without the infrastructure and support for innovation that is unique to this country.

On the other, they have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders not to pay more in taxes than they have to....

and it's great that they're providing further proof of the ineptitude of Congress and how backwards our tax code is. This tips the scale in their favor. When Congress repeals statutes that incentivize offshore holdings, companies will pay their "fair share."

1. lets get it straight they wouldn't be what they are w/o america. none of those companies.

2. true, but avoiding billions is different than writing off a few million due to charity or however else they cheat the system.

3. yes. congress is in their wallet though, so nothing will ever happen. the tax code will get some bullshyt changes to shut people up for another decade or so but it will still go on.

until the people rise up and force some constitutional amendments nothing will change in america. capitalism will continue to plague society.

I respect anyone who can capitalize on any system.... and capitalist are the best at capitalizing. Alternative is to go out as mediocrity impersonated.

I would prefer if that wasn't the only option. And Tricare is great imo. Everything covered.. you don't pay shyt. no preexisting conditions.

I get what you're saying.

But I see tax avoidance as a symptom of the problem, rather than THE problem. Apple makes the existence of the problem much more obvious to everyone, and can help spur change.

I agree that constitutional amendments are probably the best way to reach a solution, but the same forces that are currently inhibiting progress in Congress can and will do the same in the amendment process.
