Still probably a top 5 AOTY for me
No doubt. Like, I've always liked Jean Grae and Rapsody, but Che is the only female emcee I think I've ever heard where I don't think of her as a female emcee. She's just an emcee to me. And I can't put my finger on why this is...better than that for me. never thought I would say this...but my most listened to album of the year is by a female. I defintiely dont throw the word classic around and in this day, I cant tell you when the last time we have had one....but if there is, this is it. this is a classic to me. and not just because of the lyrics but because Apollo laced this perfectly. this is HIS best work and thats saying a lot.
Me too. Not since the 90sNo doubt. Like, I've always liked Jean Grae and Rapsody, but Che is the only female emcee I think I've ever heard where I don't think of her as a female emcee. She's just an emcee to me. And I can't put my finger on why this is...

Yep. That's it.
If I'd never heard the original I'd like the new one just fine, but the OG is definitely better.
The same thing happened with the Apollo Brown & Skyzoo album
Original
New version
It's one of the reasons I'll never be fully on board with streaming.

I never heard about the original Oh shyt I love the newer one but that OG is
Kind of related, but it looks like The Ecstatic by Mos Def has been pulled from streaming services.Wow... Yeah the OG is the same sample that Dilla flipped for Elzhi. Skyzoo rapped on it on an old mixtape. I never heard the OG. Just the remix. I just downloaded it and added it to my Easy Truth playlist.
When it comes to streaming, I like to stream to support the artist. But if a project or a song off of a project gets pulled, I like to have a backup just in case.
This is another reason why ultimately I dislike WhoSampled. I can't say I don't have some fun browsing on there, but if it disappeared ultimately I'd be happy with that. I'd rather my favorite artists be able to more easily keep making the music they prefer to make.
