I thought it was a good episode...but I felt that there was a danger of this show becoming a little too "Billions" like. Kit Harrington was showing off a bit of Billions-like "wealth porn", and it seemed like Harper might be following a character arc similar to what you might see on that show
.
Only watched an episode of Billions, but just the directing and writing, and acting here, is on a much much higher level. The set design. The production. The color schemes, but yeah that's a fair observation. Billions looked and felt hollow from e1.
It's always been soapier than
Succession, and more emotional, more sex, more relationships, more intimate --and
Succssion was always more operatic, is how I would put it. I don't think there was more than 2 sex scenes on
Succession, and they were both some weirdo shyt. No heat.
Industry is an intensely sexual, sensual show, from the color palettes, to the way the characters talk. Remember Harper in episode 1: "pull me out of here by my braids".
and the sexual tension is dialed extremely high in that pool scene.
and no doubt they got the nod from HBO, this will be a flagship show, so go all out. There's more nude scenes, more comedy, yachts, murders, flashbacks, coverups private jets. it's a lot more grandiose than the first season. But, shows have to grow and change too.
I think
Succession got it right. 4 perfect seasons and done. Don't stay long enough to lose it.
