I just started going back to school for it. I'm about 1/2 way to my bachelors and then I will tackle the CPA exams. As far as the job market, its all about networking. Work is always there, you just have to find it. I'm in my 30's so I ain't fukking with no big 4 firm. I'm going to start looking to intern starting the end of next year.

From what everyone I know who is an accountant told me, you're not really in the game unless you are a CPA. Most companies won't consider you unless you are at least eligible to sit in for the exams. CMA is the next progression and I think I holds more weight than having an MBA.

I'm studying going into my 4th year. But I'm doing an internship at an Investment Mgmt. firm first. Getting into the Big 4 is overrated to me. Obviosuly you shoot for that...but I'd be fine working for other training offices too. Not sure how the USA works though. But in Canada there are various othee corporations and public firms that qualify as having valid training programs.

I'm a senior right now then I take the CPA after I graduate. IDK If I want to go to a big 4 firm or just go work for the government. Government jobs are pretty good. I've already interned at a local place.

How does it work in the USA?

Do you just do required university courses and then take the exam to become an official CPA?

How much work experience is required and how many exams?

My college offers as a part of their bachelors program to where you take the CPA exam at your college after you've completed your degree. At my university you need 160 hours to qualify for the CPA. I think in general, you just need a bachelors to take the CPA exam

I'm a recent grad with a BBA in Accounting. I'm out here trying to get my first gig...I'm hoping to get on audit but at this point, it doesn't even matter as long as I get my work experience requirement for my CPA license.

you should've started interning when you was still in school. An accounting degree alone won't get you far. Experience, whether part time or internships go a long way.

Same here, except at my school it's 150 credit hours and there's also a dual BBA/MBA program that's 150 credit hours + the CPA exam at the end. I'm debating whether I should do it though. Plus I go to a target school for accounting. So either I'm :winning:

Unless you know people, to get an internship at one of the "big four" you need to have at least a 3.5 GPA.

I have a 3.1 :to:

As of now I'm just worried about my grades and getting an internship of two under my belt. Some companies also offer undergrad training programs that last up 18 months if you want to do that also.

Sometimes experience is all that matters. Ive seen accounting jobs that require a few years of experience and just an associates degree.
