for night life, like already mentioned, i would definitely hit up 'seven'. if you stay on first avenue or hennepin avenue you can't go wrong. it's packed with restaurants, bars, lounges, etc. the wolves play in the target center and that's off of first avenue and across the street you can catch a concert at 'first avenue and 7th st. entry' nightclub.
there are a few strip joints and other seedy little joints you can hit up, lol. 'deja vu' is pretty good, but i think they're only topless. 'dreamgirls' takes everything off, ha. you can also go to a classier spot called 'sheiks/downtown cabaret'.
if you want top notch food go to 'manny's steakhouse' or 'oceanaire' for seafood.
you can also go to "stella's" in uptown which is a few minutes away from downtown. the uptown area during the day is cool because you can go to the lakes (calhoun, harriet, lake of the isles), eat at the numerous cafes and check out the various specialty stores, etc.
you can go to the museum (minneapolis institute of arts or science museum in st.paul, both world class) or for theatre check out the "orpheum theatre" or "guthrie theater".
depending on when exactly you're going, you could catch a wolves game, twins game or maybe even vikings game at the metrodome.
there's also "dinkytown", which is basically the hub for students at the university of minnesota. they have many ethnic restaurants, etc... you could catch a gophers football or basketball ball game there.
mall of america is cool. with hundreds of stores but for higher-end shyt, you could go to 'gavidae common' in downtown. there's an indoor amusement park in mall of america but "valleyfair" another amusement park about 20 minutes from downtown is very good - although i don't remember how late in the year that is open.
mainly, anything you could want to do is within a 30 minute drive - minneapolis/st.paul and its surrounding area.
also, you have to remember that minneapolis is a very liberal city - you're not going to have the types of problems you think you'll be having. in fact, you'd probably have more problems hitting up the urban clubs, because there's always shyt popping off there.
