You can tell from my posts that I love arthouse (to an extent) and shyt that makes you think...I love the sheer vulnerability at the heart of the story...the most powerful human need outside of the obvious food, water, etc. is companionship...we seek interaction with others because its in our nature...an alien is using our own vulnerabilities against us and that's a scary feeling. Plus you have the alien itself developing that same vulnerability in her interacting with others...think about the title: Under the skin...what exactly are we under our skin? We are emotional creatures that crave companionship and love...

Plus the cinematography is beautiful...its makes me glad I bought a high powered HDTV; shyt is mesmerizing; and the soundtrack is haunting; I can't find one fukking thing I don't love about this film...its an extremely intimate performance from Johanssen and the supporting cast (non-actors mostly) and look at the most frightening aspects of being human...

I agree exactly @kp404 about how the movie explores how vulnerable we are when we dont have human connection.

Also I liked the predatory nature of Scarlett Johansens character as a woman trying to pick her male victims based on a certain criteria.

Her characters predatory ways also speak to how we prey on each others wants and desires.
Her character literally led men on to wallow and drown in a pool of sorrow and regret. :wow:

That scene in the last third where she's walking alongside the guy and theres a pool of water and he lifts her up and they cross it is a metaphor for a healthy relationship. :wow:

The ending made me literally bust out loud laughing. :mjlol: Maybe for over a minute.

The problem with this movie is the pacing was so slow. Especially in the beginning. There was no need to show her trying to get lonely men to go home with over and over again. I think thats why most people didnt like it.

All in all I'd give it a 6.5 maybe 7. If the pacing in the beginning was better this movie couldve been at least an 8 in my book.

This film does anything but "explore", which is quite ironic given its namesake; it's more intent on cloaking itself with superficial, repetitive and polysemic imagery, rather than getting underneath anything.

West where the Sunsets
I thought I commented on it. Movie is the drizzling shyts. :scust:

It's basically a movie that could have been done in a 30 minute TV show. shyt becomes repetitive AF. :hhh:

I kept it for ScarJo naked tho. :steviej:

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
i like it but i do agree that it is padded out. probably could have been a one hour sci fi anthology episode

Fun fact tho..

All of the guys that Johansson picked up were not actors. They were regular guys that didn't know what was going on until she got them back to her apartment.

And the scene where she tripped and fell, those people weren't actors neither.
