Cee Lo was one of the most unique talents in hip-hop from day 1. Ever since Soul Food, he's always been on that funk/hip-hop fusion wave. Really when he dropped Imperfections and Soul Machine, he was way ahead of the curve, both of those albums were years ahead of their and in all honesty, hip-hop didn't know what to do with it, really.
But when I first heard Crazy on the Smoking Section back in the day, I was like
it was so hard to really categorize. Really if you think about it, Gnarls Barkley, Amy Winehouse and Joss Stone kind of put that Hipster Soul on the map in the US. But yea, once Crazy dropped, I knew it would be a huge hit.
I was more surprised at the success of fukk You to be honest. I thought it was a bit cheesy but hey
