Anyone paying like $150-400 a month for crossfit, personal training, small group boot camps, or those specialty gyms where you're like climbing ropes, doing kettle bells, flipping tires etc? I'm wondering if you think they're worth it?

I honestly don't know anyone who has joined one and not made progress (whether it be losing weight, building muscle, strength, agility, etc) so they seem like they're getting a return on their money, but I'm wondering if these spots are doing anything that a good Beachbody program can't tackle? I gave up the large corporate gyms (24 hr fitness, LA fitness, etc) a few years back for local, but still comprehensive gyms, and have been contemplating just dropping the dough for 3-4 months at one of these specialty joints.

I guess it's like people buying overprice Macs for the easy of use and shyt simplified enough for a old person. :yeshrug:

Go for it if you have extra money no blow and a lack of self-motivation...or maybe you like group shyt. :yeshrug:

that's basically what is is right now, i been out the gym for 6-7 months, keep starting and stopping these DVD's (i really don't want to have to join 24 hour and simply want a fun way to get back in the groove (i always went to classes at the gym)...plus we get a $400 fitness reimbursement at work, so i figured i'd blow it on some shyt i'd otherwise never do

I did them (Bootcamp) a good amount 1.5-2 years ago. It's a good start for certain eventually if you take it serious enough you can kind of max out on it.

I remember when you were doing this (damn shame I know e-lives :snoop:) were yours more expensive than a typical gym membership, did you think it was worth it (I'm guessing yes since you seem to have kept your healthy habits).

not sure where you're living these days but you should join a place like equinox. they have a huge selection of classes and group fitness options and also great equipment and nice facilities. that way if you're gonna drop btwn 150-200 / month you at least have the option of going both directions, whether doing the group thing or hitting the gym for a solo workout.

That isn't as bad as poster showing up on your LinkedIn account :merchant:

It was worth it because I was in terrible shape and it started me down the road. @ocmfII makes a good point, if you can find a gym with those options take the best of both worlds. At worst they should offer a free weekend class so you can try it.

My only other warning is that if you aren't a morning person and you are doing the classes after work you really have to manage your nutrition for how you like to perform. I hate working out with food in my stomach so afternoons are a no go. If you don't get that worked out you are going to be less motivated to go to each session.

Yea, I've been that route, I actually never do cardio on my own, I'm always in spin or kickboxing or some other group classes, I used to lift on my own tho, I'm just looking for something a little different than the typical packed gym where you have to fight to get into spin class, etc

regardless of what I do, I'm making myself do mornings, I hate waking up, but Im trying to go to more networking events/connect with friends more after work so I know or I go are my only guarantee

Well, I don't because I learned how to workout from reading books and magazines on weight lifting. I'm self-motivated. Why would I pay someone to tell me to do something I can do myself? Part of it I owe to my high school track coach. He treated us like bytches! :sadbron: But getting pushed beyond your personal breaking point is how you excel.
Yes, there is a time and place for these things and those businesses provide a useful service for those who need to know how to workout or to provide discipline to workout. I'm not dissing them as the trainers are fitness people just like me.

i've done the build your own workout thing before (with all my cardio coming from group classes - i work harder with competition) with great success, so i'm not looking for soapbox opinions about how you researched everything under the sun and make your own programs. i have the money to spend - i don't trick off dough on too many other things - but i'm just looking for opinions about the results folks got or have seen folks get...as i said, i'm quite a bit less motivated this time and hoping some gains (losses) from a more structured approach for 3-4 months will ignite the discipline i had from 07-12

Starting off I would never do one but once I hit a natural peak I would take personal training from a knowledgeable lifting coach

all you need is a 2-3 days a week of really good H.I.I.T cardio followed by steady state...add in a 3 or 4 day a week lifting regimen and the right macros with creatine

and you will look better than all those crossfit people who are just wasting energy and not being efficient in their training and putting themselves in danger for injury and over training
