"Gullah Islands" you mean the Low Country?
The Gullah Islands are arguably the origin of Afram Culture. I went to SC last year but didn't get a chance to go to the Islands. I plan to go next year and spend a week down there hopefully.
Anyone ever been whether on vacay or to visit fam? How was it?
I knew you would materialize
I tried to reframing from using this word but you are trying to put a tether spin on our culture.
Can't stand for it
Closest Caribbean accent I can identify with when I hear Gullah would be Bajan (Barbados)
Pretty dope
Isn't Savannah considered Gullah territory?
My mother's family is from the Caribbean. So I can pick up on the dialect. My father's side was from NC so I'm wondering if I have any family down there.This.
Born and raised in the Lowcountry (Charleston SC).
I'm from there and the islands which were heavily our spots are becoming cac-ified.
I'm biased but it's home. Love it.
you might have trouble understanding some of us though. lol. If you've been to the Bahamas, that's how we sound.
Probably why I can understand them so well. My mom's family is from Barbados. They sound EXACTLY like Bajans, without the every so often sing songy pitch
they're like somewhat monotone Bajans

Hey now. I agree with you but our ancestors were brought here through SC and NC as POW's.Louisiana > Any other southern state for black culture
I'm aware but that could be said about most of the south. It means the literally lower part of the country though lol
A shame.I find the old AA cultures need to be preserved and brought back to vitality. I have seen some of this happening in the Carolinas with alot of black people getting back into horse back riding. The 'new' urban culture overshadowed and almost buried old traditional culture.
