Deathstroke Probably Isn't Returning To Arrow, And He's Not Happy About It

Ask any Arrow fan, and many of them will say that one of the best aspects of Season 2 on The CW was Manu Bennett’s as DC supervillain Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke. Bennett’s portrayal was lauded by both many hardcore comic book fans and general viewers who were introduced to the one-eyed assassin. While some might be looking forward to Deathstroke coming back at some point in a more recurring capacity, it looks like that might not be in the cards anymore, primarily because of Bennett not being pleased with how his character was treated.

During an interview with TheMusic.com.au, Bennett expressed his unhappiness with how the writers handled Deathstroke during Season 2 and his sole Season 3 appearance. According to Bennett:
I think Deathstroke had a lot of possibilities with Arrow but, I think they took it in the wrong direction.
Bennet believes that the show should have adapted how Deathstroke's creator Marv Wolfman wrote the character, i.e. the unstoppable mercenary. However, Arrow’s version slowly started to tone down Deathstroke’s toughness, and with his mercenary background only being touched upon, he was primarily driven by his vendetta against Oliver Queen for allowing the love of his life Shado to die.
It took the Justice League to defeat him; it took an army to take him on. In Arrow, it took a while for Oliver [Queen/Arrow] to prove his point, but [season three] was just a beating of Slade, adding insult to injury.
Beware that there are a few spoilers ahead in case you are not caught up on the current season of Arrow.

Slade Wilson was introduced midway through the Arrow Season 1 flashbacks as an ASIS (Australian Secret Intelligence Service) agent who joined forces with Oliver and Shado to take down Edward Fyers’ operation on Lian Yu. Season 2 chronicled Slade’s journey both in the past and present. In the flashbacks, viewers watched his insanity slowly degrade after being injected with the Mirakuru and hating Oliver for choosing Sara Lance to live over Shado. In the present-day storyline, he carried out his revenge on Oliver, which resulted in Oliver’s mother being killed and Starling City nearly being destroyed. Bennet reprised Slade in the Season 3 episode “The Return,” but at the end he ended up right back where he was left the last time: locked up.

While he didn’t outright rule out another appearance, Bennett’s dissatisfaction certainly doesn’t bode well for a return, especially since he also is working on a new series called Shannara. However, one also has to wonder if Deathstroke possibly not appearing on Arrow again might have something to do with fellow supervillain Deadshot recently being declared off-limits. Will Smith will be playing the big screen version of Deadshot in 2016’s Suicide Squad, and there have been reports that Joe Manganiello will be playing Deathstroke in the same film. With a few exceptions (such as Flash), DC doesn’t seem keen on having two different live-action iterations of the same characters, so with Deathstroke possibly making his cinematic debut, the Arrow version might have to be set aside, meaning that he won’t be escaping that prison cell on Lian Yu again anytime soon.

I don't watch it anymore. Even Deathstroke is probably :scust: at the direction the show took

I'll never forgive them for what they did to Arrow post season 2:mjcry:.

Phaggot Tommy destroyed Oliver, all Olly wanted to do was save people and got called a murderer:why:

How can you start off so great and then give us season 3 and 4?

What once was :wow:...

This is where I stopped watching before I got super busy with other things. I guess I should just leave it alone now. I got out while the gettin was good. :whew:

Season 2 was :wow: status
I still don't think there has been a better moment in fukkery than when Slade showed up on Ollie's couch on some "Me and your mom are talking business, boy" :birdman:
Season 3 was all over the place, the love thing I thought was going to work because I was with the Olicity shipping but then I got what I wanted and realized that it was slowly ruining the show way too late. I watched a few episodes of Season 4 but I have to admit to myself that this show is wack and Flash is just better. :mjcry:

:dead:And now they're all gone

Manu Bennett | Tom Magazine

TOM MAGAZINE: Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who you worked with on ‘Spartacus’, is in ‘Arrow’ too as Amanda Waller. Did you hear what happened to her character?

MANU BENNETT: No. No! What happened to Cynthia?

TOM MAGAZINE: They shot her in the head!

MANU BENNETT: Oh no! <groans>

TOM MAGAZINE: I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

MANU BENNETT: My god, that’s kind of as brutal as they were on ‘Spartacus’ with her.

TOM MAGAZINE: I know! I was going to ask you if you were disappointed your two characters in ‘Arrow’ didn’t get to share a scene together?

MANU BENNETT: Oh my lord. I actually thought we would one day, but that’s definitely put an end to that.

TOM MAGAZINE: Well, it is comic books, they could bring her back!

MAN BENNETT: <laughs> It’s funny that you told me that Naevia is dead again. Unbelievable. The heartache of it. Cynthia is such a great actress, I think she did a really good job in ‘Texas Rising’. I think she’s got a stellar career ahead of her. I really like her, I’m sure she had no problems. Maybe she wasn’t available anymore and that’s why they put a bullet in her head?

TOM MAGAZINE: There’s been rumours they’re taking a number of characters off the table for the movies and that’s why they’re not going to be in the show anymore. I don’t know if you can say anything about that?

MANU BENNETT: Well, who knows with Deathstoke? They intimated to me that they were definitely going to bring him back at some stage and I’ve heard nothing of it. Maybe that is the reason? There’s all these rumours about whether he’s going to be in the new ‘Suicide Squad’ movie. Who knows?

That review of Season 3 left out the biggest problem with it: Olicity.
It was in Season 3 that Olicity ate the show and the majority of the shows failings could be traced directly back to that coupling and its prominence in all aspects of every storyline.
this season is my last season of arrow there is no reason to have to go through this bullshyt as least bring back Slade da Gawd

Nah don't bring Slade back if they can't write him properly. And given the way this season is going they will probably have Felicity be the one to magically cure him.

I liked last season :yeshrug:

Haven't seen this season
Don't bother. The first few episodes are okay but then it gets unbelievably worse.

What once was indeed...:wow:

I still can't believe they drove Arrow off the cliff the way they did. I still haven't finished the series. I fell of in s4. I tried to go back a few times and I even thought that Ten Steps Ahead was restoring the feeling.... but it wasn't to be.:mjcry:
