ultimately every mistake was my fault for rushing through the dortania guide. it was pretty easy in the end. i had to give up and start over a few times
you do need to know everything about your computer to do it though.
i really tried with SSDT timer but ultimately i used the precompiled ones. everything works except for sound. which i suspect is because of voodooHDA when i should've used the AppleALC kexts. the only thing that sucks is you cant take advantage of the radeon graphics in it, but they're not really that powerful anyway.
