Anybody ever bought one of those low end hdtv's?

My brother called me and said there is a 55 inch..Higher or Hauuer.. w/e tv for 400 bucks he can get and wants my advice, but I have no Idea.

Are those wal-mart type brands really that bad?

Ive some , i thionk sanyo's?? those dont look so bad to me still a step up from sdtv..

any opinion?

You can get decent sized Vizios for relatively cheap..

I have heard in the past that Best Buys in-house brands (Dynex, Insignia) use leftover panels from the big companies (Samsung, ect....) don't know how true that is

Never dealt with any Walmart in house brand or the brand you mentioned

look at online site for reviews of those low end brands they have a high return rate

I wouldn't buy a Haier, not great quality. That's not from personal ownership experience, just reviews. I'd tell him to look into a Vizio, they're cheap but nice.

That's true to an extent, they do buy lcd panels from other companies. The thing is, they have low quality parts everywhere else. The screens are just as, maybe even more important than the lcd panel, same with the light source, that's why tvs look so different from brand to brand. So the cheap brands just go and buy parts from all different companies so you basically have a tv with non matching parts unlike a sony or samsung who research and develop tvs rather that just build one out of left over parts. Long story short, they are usually unreliable and picture quality is usually a secondary thought. They are for people on a budget or non cinephiles. Id recommend vizio if he's on a budget, they are cheaper only because they started out as a cheap brand and didn't advertise so they can afford to sell a good tv at a much lower price. If u notice vizio rarely has commercials and they dont sponsor much, they use that to undercut other bigger companies.

I personally don't think it mattrrs, and this is coming from someone who owns a 65" and 40" Sony Bravia.


and I only say this because..........whats the difference between a Sony SDTV tube from 1995 and an unknown brand tube from the same era?

and to keep it completely 100, if I wasn't a gamer I wouldn't even bother buying an HDTV, movies look the same on a HDTV and tube to me, games are the only sh1t that look different

Found a sony last 40 inch LCD for 289 after taxes, I was thinking about getting a haier or some other shyt too but slick deals came through with the heat

Go Plasma. You can get a 51 inch Samsung Plasma for under $500 these days. Bought my parents one just so I didn't have to suffer with SDTV when I visit them. SAMs Club had these for $488 last weekend when I went. I helped a guy load 2 on his cart...

Don't mess with off brand TVs. They'll randomly crap out on you. If you gonna spend $400 on a TV what's another $100 for a better quality one?

The rule of thumb is, if you were a tv snob you wouldnt be looking at an off brand tv so it already doesnt matter to you. Buy the cheapest available
