Wired controllers were just more responsive, IMO.
If you still have your ps2, fire it up someday and see what I'm talking about. It's just a tightness that felt like you had a SLIGHT bit more control. Especially with sports games.
I remember going from FIFA '06 on PS2 to playing FIFA on PS3 and you can tell the difference in the controller responsiveness, even tho it's very minute. You mentally adjust to the timing after a while to not notice it much at all, but if you go back and play the PS2 you'll notice it.
