Because alot of us saw the movie growing up as kids....it still holds that sentimental value....there was hype when they did the other trilogy in the early 2000's....so even more hype was definitely to be expected....I don't understand how you cannot understand this??....did you not grow up in the US???....

LOL I won't like it if I was you...... shyt be slow as fukk....... If you do happen to want to watch DONT WATCH EPISODE I............ I liked them all but Episode II was a snooze fest.......... Episode 2 was corny but all of it leads to Anakin's turn to the dark side and we get to see Darth Vader become Darth Vader.... Episode III was the best...... Episode IV-VI you'll hate it or you'll like it........ I'm not the biggest fan but my interest is peaked........ Again watch the movie and like it or dislike it...........Daps to you for not being on that disrespectful shyt.......

I'm not a huge star wars fan myself. I've seen some of the original trilogy and I remember watching episode 1 when it came out. I want to see the first six before watching the new one tho. As far as the op, it's a huge franchise(like many other movie franchises) with a big following. Of course people are gonna get hype about it. Look at for example when a new Jordan shoe or video game comes out. People gonna be excited and talking about it since they loyal to the brand and have supported them before. Same shyt here. And you can't base it on race, like saying that the black people around you aren't talking about. Because there are millions of black people. You don't even know 1% of the black population in this country so just cuz people you know aren't fukking with it, doesn't mean others aren't. Besides, who knows. Maybe some of your friends might be interested but just haven't told you. Ask them what they think about the movie, then go check it out if y'all like.

Humanity as a whole craves good story well told. It's why we listen to rap or any other form of entertainment. Star wars when it first debuted was the quintessential heroes journey that everyone likes to see and has throughout various cultures in the world. It combined music, story and acting in a way that really hadn't been done before. Starwars also has its own day. May 4th.
