so if you're losing 20% of your mileage, and the gas is 20% cheaper, you're really not gaining anything other than more trips to the gas station to be honest.
Pretty much, I mean it's not cost-effective enough for me to use it here in Birmingham. It may be worth it to someone else like someone with a forced-induction engine. There's one supercar and just by switching from gas to E85 gives you an instant 200hp boost in power because the octane level is around 96 or something for E85.

Well, here in Birmingham it's not cheap enough to be worth buying. If it was $.50 - $.60 cheaper I would be all over it. But it's been some cases where E85 has been a nickel more than regular gas. I do put E85 in my car from time to time to clean my engine but other than that, until it's $.50 to $.60 cheaper than I'll just stick to regular gas.

I'm not sure thats how that works...

Hold your horses guys. The reason I say that is since E85 is not a carbon based fuel, it will not build up carbon in your car's engine. They have done tests on engines that have ran E85 for extended periods of time and when they broke the engine down there was no carbon build up inside other than the oil used to lubricate the engine.

 E85 is 85% denatured ethanol fuel and 15% gasoline. E85s price is going to fluctuate with the price of corn, not crude oil.

from what I understand, it takes more energy to produce E85 and the energy returned from it, so it's really not an efficient use of corn in the first place. now if they used other crops to produce E85, that could change.

That's right.
I'm just saying the price doesn't fluctuate with the price of crude oil.

Unless you have a nuclear reactor in you car every fuel you use is gonna be carbon based.

I agree with that. What I'm saying is that since it's a cleaner burning fuel, it will not build up carbon deposits on internal engine parts.
