I got help from the teacher.
You do the chain rule when taking the partial derivative, so dU/dc = 2[(2c^.5)+(2m^.5)] * (c^-.5)
can't distribute the 2 before taking the derivative because it's addition on the inside.
oh.... that's what got you stumped? yeah.. you should revisit algebra.
(x+y)^2 is not X^2+y^2 it's x^2 +yx+y^2
