I think they beleive they run the league(which they do in a way) and thought they could strongarm anyone into getting what they want but forget other people have egos too.
Plus the Pelicans have zero incentive to do the deal now. They have to see other deals available in the summer like the Celtics and whoever gets the 1st pick.
Plus they know the same Laker deal will still be on the table in the summer
