Edgar Wright Leaves "Ant-Man" Film Due to Creative Differences - Comic Book Resources

Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.

Wright had been attached to "Ant-Man" since 2006, two years before Marvel's original "Iron Man" film was released. The "Shaun of the Dead" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" director also co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish. In 2012, Wright appeared at Marvel Studios' panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego to debut "Ant-Man" test footage.

Paul Rudd is on board to star in the film as Scott Lang, with Michael Douglas portraying the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym. Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Peña, Patrick Wilson and Matt Gerald have all also been reported to either have been cast, or in negotiations for roles.

Edgar Wright Exits Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’ as Director | Variety

n a surprise announcement, Edgar Wright has left Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man” as its director, the company said Friday.
Marvel already has tapped a new director, but has yet to reveal who landed the job.

Hollywood and Marvel’s fan community will be scratching its head for awhile over this one, considering Wright has been attached to “Ant-Man” since 2006 — before the first “Iron Man” film — as a screenwriter. He has regularly gone to San Diego Comic-Con to give updates on the project’s development, and even showed test footage in 2012 of his approach to bringing the size-shifting character to the big screen.

Marvel and Wright parted ways “due to differences in their vision of the film,” the company and director said in a statement.

The decision to move on is amicable, they added, and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. The film had originally been dated for Nov. 6, 2015.

Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly star in the film, with Corey Stoll, Michael Pena and Patrick Wilson.

In addition to helming, Wright also co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish (“Attack the Block”).

Marvel is developing “Ant-Man” as a potential new franchise as part of its third phase of films, the way it hopes to introduce the characters in “Guardians of the Galaxy” in August to hopefully appear in multiple movies.

In the comicbooks, Ant-Man is the alter-ego of biochemist Hank Pym, who uses subatomic particles to create a size-altering formula and when tests go awry, realizes he can also communicate with and control insects. The character eventually pairs up with the Avengers.

Movie will be :trash: the last two times this happened we got Iron Man 2 :beli::huhldup:. This now a corporate driven movie, director is irrelevant.

Damn...I had faith in him because he seemed passionate about that project. He's been brain storming for damn near a decade, so you know he had an air tight script for that shyt.

I bet his vision wasn't "Disney" enough.

Marvel :camby:

All they're interested in is making bland assembly line vanilla trash.

They finally work with a distinctive interesting film maker and he bails out.

This is why I can't fukk with Marvel. There's no true artistry to this shyt.

This is what happens when real filmmakers try to make superhero movies. Christopher Nolan is the lone exception.

Real talk.Jon Favreau did his thing in Iron Man 1, but then they started meddling in his shyt.IM2 & IM3 turn to shyt.

Thor 2 Kenneth Branagh told them to fukk off and bounced....Thor 2:scusthov:

I'm not expecting anything from the Ant-Man flick.

Marvel has yet to drop an A+ film. I'd give Winter Soldier and Iron Man 1= B quality

Avengers B-

That sucks he was the main one trying to get the movie made and now he out. Hopefully they find someone with just as much passion for the character.

Captain America TWS stepped up the ante with Marvel movies hopefully Marvel/Disney won't mess up the 3rd movie with their shenanigans. Even though they brought the same team back for the 3rd movie writers/directors. Pressure from the studios can really make or break a movie.
