Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.
Wright had been attached to "Ant-Man" since 2006, two years before Marvel's original "Iron Man" film was released. The "Shaun of the Dead" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" director also co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish. In 2012, Wright appeared at Marvel Studios' panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego to debut "Ant-Man" test footage.
Paul Rudd is on board to star in the film as Scott Lang, with Michael Douglas portraying the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym. Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Peña, Patrick Wilson and Matt Gerald have all also been reported to either have been cast, or in negotiations for roles.
