Been an anime fan since 1991 shyt fell the fukk off the last few years it would become super popular right when its getting to be consistently trash :francis:

There's more anime being produced than ever now so the amount of shows you have to sift through to find the good stuff has increased. That can be a detriment since anime that might actually be good can get lost in the shuffle of more popular but not necessarily better shows

Man, Sci-Fi channel on Saturdays always showed those more adult OVAs. Also the back of GameFan magazine usually talk about anime (as well as Japanese exclusive games). Anime in the 90s was just so different than most of the stuff you see today.

Samurai Pizza Cats, Speed Racer, Gatchaman, Ranma 1/2, and some others I can't remember the name of at the moment. Classics

There's a reason for that and apparently it had to do with the Japanese economic bubble of the 80's (followed by its crash in the 90's). Since the economy was thriving that allowed all those experimental OVA's to be produced that wouldn't make it onto mainstream TV. When the recession hit in the 90's that scaled back a lot of the grimier or original shows in favor of those that could be commercially successful and appeal to wider audiences. That led to the moe era in the 2000s which is where anime's reputation took a big hit from in America

Whenever I see clips of anime it’s always shadowy characters with their backs turned peeking through trench coats collars talking about how much power they have. Then lots of high pitch yelling and big hodoken-like blasts. Also, the concrete in these places seems to be poorly manufactured as it tends to just rise up and break apart like a cookie when fighting ensues.

Maybe they should create an anime wherein a big-eyed trench coat teen with hodoken powers searches for a concrete manufacturing boss and holds him accountable for supplying all of japan with cheap cookie-like pavements. :patrice:

Megan the Stallion and Michael B Jordan are repping anime proudly. It's fully mainstream now :manny:

The masses are getting on board with JRPGs with Persona and Japanese games in general with the Yakuza series

One Piece is the only Shonen that never took off all the way here in the States and it's still pretty popular
And the only reason is cuz 4kids fukked that shyt up and tried to censor it and make it childish liek Pokémon
