Why don't you just flash GApps instead of some knock-off?
The goal was to reach parity without needing Google. You don't NEED Google for Android, but it makes the experience a lot better.
Anyways it went off track, Android is Open Source and no, G Apps are not a core part of the OS. They're just goodies.
