Detroit got some nice young players in Drummond, Monroe and Knight.

Dumars always gets shyt for the 03 draft but for the most part he picked up good players in recent years (Affolo, Jerebko, Maxiell, Drummond, Monroe and Knight)

He traded Afflalo and Chauncey for a :flabbynsick: AI. Jonas and Maxiell are role guys at best. Drummond, Monroe, and Knight were all highly rated guys who fell into his lap.

He wont be as good as Shaq was in his prime,he was an all star as a rookie and dominated from jump...I dont get either why he doesnt start in Detroit. They wouldnt be better record wise than 17-30 with him starting so why not let him get mins and learn sh1t right now...

I made a thread about him earlier this week because i'm intrigued by his potential. I think he can be as good or better than Dwight one day, but i don't know about being on the same level as Shaq. But with that size and talent he can be the next dominant big man or at least battle it out with Demarcus for the next 12 plus years.

needs to develop a post game but he's putting in work on the boards and cleaning up after guys like Stuckey bricking layups

Pistons should send him to Houston to work with Hakeem for like 3-4 weeks ASAP this summer. I'd do that if I was Dumars.

its better to lose as much as possible anyways

i would try to trade Stuckey, Bynum, and see if anybody wants Maggette or Villanueva
I agree with everybody but Maggette. The whole point of acquiring him was to get rid of Gordon's contract and acquire Maggette's expiring for capspace.

I hated that he traded Afflalo, but it wasn't for AI, it was for capspace to sign Wilcox, which is probably worse tbh. The trade for AI in theory wasn't a bad move. Break up a team that probably ran it's course and pick up a rental that would expire and get some nice capspace if he didn't work it. If AI looked good then they would talk about extending or a new contract. Didn't forsee the clusterfukk that ensued or the fact that Billups still had some good tread on those tires, they were looking wobbly as fukk in Detroit. It was a solid gamble though, that Dumars fukked up royally.

As far as Maxiell and Jonas being role guys, they were late 1st and 2nd rd picks so he definitely got good value for where he drafted them. Where he fukked up is overpaying them on the 2nd contracts. He overvalues his players way to much imo. I won't discredit him for making picks that a bunch of other folks didn't though. That's too easy. He could have passed on them just like everybody else did. we praise gm's for making obvious good picks early and kill them when they make terrible ones. Think he deserves the credit for those picks too.

The AI move was a 2K trade. :russ: He and Chauncey are the same age and Chauncey was bigger and had more that proven to be the perfect fit. Then to make matter worse you re-sign Rip immediately after you make that move and keep Sheeds :flabbynsick: ass when you could've possibly gotten Brook Lopez and Okafor for him.

I am not discrediting him but I am just not willing to give praise when shyt just falls in your lap. They were consensus top 5 picks. Doesn't take much acumen to pick them when they fall to you like that.

These Shaq comparisons have to stop. The "next" MJ's have some type of credence (KB is doing the same type of shyt MJ did). Aint none of these bigs close to the dominance of Shaq.

Every Piston fan can confirm that Chauncey was playing like he didn't give a fukk here anymore. Him going to Denver basically revitalized him cause he felt he got something to prove. That Chauncey wasn't in Detroit anymore. Completely agree that I would have rather they traded Sheed than Billups though. At least then Stuckey would have had somebody to learn the position from. And Sheed had mailed it in that season much worse than Chauncey. He was basically just a 7ft 3pt shooter that wasn't hitting at that point. And to that Rip extension :pacspit: to Joe D for that dumb shyt.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
Drummond has a ton of potential, but Shaq is a once in a lifetime type of physical talent, then you combine that incredibly rare size/coordination/footwork and skill with that frame and we may never see anyone like him again. Human beings don't grow to be as big as Shaq that often, and as much of a manchild Drummond is, he's shorter and lighter than Shaq was at the same age.

Shaq? :heh: no way.

He can be prime Amare if he develops a mid range game.

He's already a better rebounder and defender than Amare ever was.

What he can become is entirely up to what he works on, people think he's just some big oaf but this is what he could do in HS -

He has the coordination, footwork and agility to be a monster in the post if he works at it.
