So, depending on your school, you wouldn't see a full map in your textbook.

In ours, Alaska was always cut off from Canada. But this The Coli so no one makes mistakes.

You never need to see a full map of the world, and unless you are curious, why would you care to?

It's even in the OP

Meanwhile, a viewer who said they are a teacher wrote that they had "heard this from adults many times" and that they always made sure to tell their students that Alaska is not an island.

You never need to see a full map of the world...? :what:

I hope this doesn't come off as condescending, but Americans are generally complete and utter morons when it comes to anything outside of America

40% of Americans can't even find Canada on a map lol

I think they do well in terms of drilling their own history into their students, but outside of that they're generally clueless

Given the wealth and resources available to the average citizen, Americans are pretty easily the stupidest ppl in the world

Americans aren't actally stupid...... we're just self absorbed by our own culture.

It's a huge country that basically dwarfs Europe. We don't travel abroad because 1 we don't have time and 2 everything is already here in some form.

We say the pledge of allegiance to the flag daily for 12 years and pretend our constitution is infallible. We're #1 ..... and pretty much everywhere else we pretend the people living there are likely miserable and wish they were here. Mexico = Cancun. Canada = syrup and hockey.

With that said... this lady is an imbecile. Even if u forgot Canada was to the north... no teacher ever told her Alaska was a giant island. I'm also betting while studying geography or history she's noticed Canada and Alaska hugged up. .... she gotta be trolling.

Some maps do show Alaska (and Hawaii) isolated and detached usually at the bottom but that is only for visual purposes to have all 50 states shown in one.

Otherwise, you can clearly see on a world map that Alaska is connected with the rest of North America by land and borders Yukon and British Columbia in Canada.

You caping for her? :dahell:

This is a myth. Americans have an incredibly high percentage of passport ownership. Something like 50%.

I teach Japanese teenagers English and when I ask them what foreign country they would most like to visit they say Hokkaido.

People by and large don’t know anything but what gets them through the day.

Did they not have a globe? You’re right about the text books but when I was in 3rd grade they had a globe…
