I'm sure other posters will back me up on this. Most delis in America will give jack or cheddar if a guest asks for American cheese.

Not kraft singles. I'm sorry they fukked your order up but being pissy with me won't make that kraft swiss. And it doesn't change the fact colby, jack, and cheddar are American cheeses.

That's bullshyt. Jack, Colby, and cheddar are always referred to by name, as is American, which aside from singles is also available in loaves at delis. So they gone slap some cottage cheese or muenster on my roast beef if i call American? They're also American cheeses but not "American cheese". Yal are arguing semantics :manny:

a lot of that shyt just isnt cheese :heh: like when you ask for american cheese at the deli its usually white, but that orange shyt at mcdonalds is supposedly american. i think they're not even legally allowed to call it cheese :laff:

That's right. In older times cheddar was originally yellow-orangish color from grass fed cows (higher beta carotene) and was considered higher quality. Color was added to mimic and pass off as higher quality cheeses. Now many Americans associate cheddar (and other cheeses) as orange and annatto continues to be added to change the color
