why do you need to be informed about the pros of the deal? This is the socialist mindset that the government and citizens should control companies. If you were opening a hamburger restaurant and you used a government program to get a SB loan and PETA came and started picketing in front of your restuarant and demanding you to stop serving hamburgers, you would tell them to go fukk themselves. It shouldn't be anybodies business what you choose to do - as long as it's not harming the environment or anything else.
Hamburgers and beef companies do harm the environment :russ:
her analogy makes no sense, we know where the $300 coupon came from, it wasn't made up out of thin air. The original poster was correct in his analogy.

She should focus on her green new deal...she's continues taking Ls

Why didnt Amazon want to open itself up for questions pertaining to its business practices :sas1:

Amazon knew if they came here they would be getting smoke the entire time year after year from politicians here in NYC. They didn't want it. Really the whole competition thing backfired. It made them all high profile and on everyone's radar.

Big businesses don’t hold public sweepstakes like it’s the Hunger Games to pit cities against each other and squeeze the most tax breaks possible. That’s not normal. General Electric moved from Connecticut to Boston and that was it. Boston had favorable terms and they moved. Google moved a HQ to New York. No pomp and circumstance. They just came. They didn’t put out a country wide press release and tell everyone to come with their best offer or else :heh:

thats also the fukked up thing. Google just announces things quietly and Amazon ALREADY has an NYC presence and they're going to expand anyways.

It goes back to this Reddit post.

And particularly this:
They're going to do it because NYC remains probably the largest major underutilized tech labor pool in the country, and it's profitable to do it with or without subsidy. Not doing it means throwing up their hands and handing a vast amount of hiring over to their competitors.

I think people underestimate how big the tech scene is here. It's one of the largest in the country outside of SF/Silicon Valley. Between the location and the tech workers already here, Amazon was probably always going to expand their presence here.

Amazon needs a larger presence in NYC more than NYC needs a larger Amazon presence.

NYC will be fine:manny:

no company wants to be regulated - and the stockholders don't want it either, nor do board members. It's no different than what Trump was doing when he attacked Amazon. Besos kept Trump's name out his mouth and just hoped he went away with time.

again it';s all show. Net net, Amazon deal would have been positive. You guys complaining about traffic or higher rents, meanwhile you're missing out on good paying jobs and creating a tech epicenter in Queens

Amazon can build it anywhere and wherever they build it, will become an technology hub. They don't need to be in NY...and with all the talent willing to leave NY, I disagree that they couldn't go to an Atlanta or Nashville (for HQ2) and attract talent/ Every major city is looking to build tech hubs...an Amazon would super charge that effort

Asking questions is regulation now :skip:

Exactly.

A lot of top end tech talent want to live in NYC so tech companies like Google, Facebook and others have offices there. Amazon has to come anyway if they want to keep retaining these people who might want to move back East so why would NYC bend over backwards for them? Amazon probably knew from jump they wanted DC and NYC and created this ruse so they could get the leverage they wouldn’t have got going to NYC straight up.

no one is stating that, congratulations for making your own arguement just to make AOC look better. The state negotiated a tax credit - that has nothing to do with anything you're talking about. Amazon will still need to pay taxes (corporate) for every country they operate in. There is a totally seperate issue of taxes paid in the US and that has to do with cleaning up the tax code federally.

Congrats on reading so far between the lines you made a new statement for yourself.

I'm talking about the way corporations are defended by politicians in whatever pretzel logic makes sense to justify an action. Corporations as people was the start for a lot of people. That corporations need these incentives to come and that they're "job creators" are what matters. That the net benefit of jobs will somehow wipe away any ill-effects. That corporate taxes are a burden.

But when the argument is made in favor of Green deals, fixing infrastructure like Flint, or public assistance. The money isn't in the budget. Or it's socialism.

As if corporate welfare is some made up ideal by liberals who hate wealthy bootstrappers.

Regular people see politicians going to bat for them and the populist/socialist AOC/Bernies are gaining tractions for doing the opposite.

New Jersey offered $7 billion in tax incentives.

Maryland offered $8.5 billion

Pittsburgh offered $9.7 billion in incentives.

If Amazon could've went anywhere, why didn't they go to any of the above places? :patrice:

Instead, they settled on Northern Virginia, which is only giving Amazon about $570 million in incentives, and NYC. I wonder why

There's various reasons, jersey would have given them the same access to talent, no? But rebuilding queens and the network they could have built is much easier in a place like new york and access directly to talent.

What im saying is amazon can attract talent anywhere they go, but there's direct access to a lot of things in new york ....its a no brainer
