Amazon said the 2018 document listing Carney’s goals to defeat privacy regulation is “out-of-date” and does not reflect the company’s current public-policy objectives. The company said it has opposed “poorly crafted” state privacy bills. It said it would prefer
a federal law that “requires transparency about data practices, prohibits the sale of personal data without consent, and ensures that consumers have the right to request access to and delete their personal information.”
I’m with Amazon on this…
But of course the statist dont want transparency because that would reveal nothing nefarious is going on with the data, ending a profitable narrative.
You know why they're saying this?
Because they know federal law is much easier to water down.
Otherwise a state might pass a more stringent version that might become a model for others.
To be honest for me the privacy issue is less of a concern bc frankly most people really don't care. If giving up your privacy is the cost of using online services, social media most ppl will shrug and hit "Accept these terms." My beef with Amazon is it's business to business practices. A race to the bottom.
