Picked option 1.

If your kids are so influenced by gangsta rap that they act in similar fashion, then you failed as a parent.

If I had to choose. Amazing negative. Everytime too. I don't wanna listen to mediocre shyt for the fukk of it. Now what u think it's mediocre and what I think is mediocre could be different. But still.

You can have both. I think it depends on where it's coming from though. A lot of great music has been made from pain, I don't think we can dispute that. But I also think that there's definitely a place for happy, uplifting music because sometimes, you really need that shyt in your life. Nothing wrong with positivity, it just has to be done in a creative way. Negative music tends to be more creative because it's easier to feel negative, it leave can much more of an impression on you sometimes.

Music is a mood, it's not always that cut and dry, but I do think that having more positive music can be a great thing.

It all about the creativity of the rapper displaying the subject matter. Nas is a gangsta rapper who made classics such as One Mic, 2nd Childhood, the world is yours etc. common is a positive rapper who made classics such as I used to love her etc. it's just most of these rappers they prop up today are trash.

What's being played on the radio is NOT indicative of what black people listen. There's tons of amazing positive music for our community that's embraced. Just because its not Chance doesn't mean that it's a flag of some sort of heracy regarding uplifting music. We have entire genres filled with great music that's not trap shyt. We make more than rap music breh. shyt rap is the weakest of our music IMO. Give me some good ass Blues, Jazz, and Soul over rap any day.

Neither Chance nor rap holds a monopoly of great positive music within our community. I know you didn't say that but I'm just saying. People doing too much with this Chance shyt now.
Oh Ok, I'm not really sure what you're saying. I was only answering the imaginary scenario OP posted. If given the choice between rap that promoted black genocide and rap that promoted black positivity and empowerment, I think most "conscious" people would choose the more positive music.

We're in a time where there's open white supremacists in the White House. Blacks are being gunned down with no penalty by cops. The last thing we would need is the airwaves filled with music promoting even more anti-black messages and perpetuating negative black stereotypes.

Amazing "negative" gangsta music is more positive that fake-deep mediocre positive shyt. Why? Because amazing music moves people and helps them become more self-aware. The music of Wu/Mobb/Nas etc has saved and inspired countless lives. The music of Koonye/Snore/Duckworth hasn't done shyt.

This is obvious but I'm sure y'all will find something else to ramble about. I see PhonY came into this thread early with his usual shtick. :mjlol: Carry on :salute:

Or maybe they just like the music? Not every non white is out for the destruction of the black man.

As for the question, I tend to listen more "gangsta" music.

Give me the vivid street tales of Raekwon or Ghostface over J. Cole making mediocre songs about folding clothes.

The "conscious" mind doesn't think like this tho. Its not "just music" when you're aware of how media propaganda has been used to criminalize and demonize the black race for generations now. Its not "just music" once you realize how music itself (not just rap) can affect a persons thoughts, feelings, mood and ultimately ACTIONS.

Black people constantly hearing and seeing negative images of themselves has a negative affect on the mind. Constantly seeing black people portrayed as violent, irresponsible, uncivilized savages has an affect on how black people view and treat other black people.

Again, if given the choice between the 2 scenarios, I think most "consciously aware" folks would choose the more positive and empowering music.
