I 100% agree breh. But the reality is, Gruden is liberated from performance expectations in a way that no coach in
history has ever been. Firing him would most likely take the Raiders into financial "red zone" territory with the NFL because of that $100 million dollar upfront hit they'd take - most likely forcing a sale of the team. The Davis family has no interest in selling the team - they'll do whatever it takes to keep their hands on it.
The stars had to align perfectly for Gruden to get this contract - but they did. And now that he has it,
and the Raiders are having legitimate cash flow difficulties, he's going to take maximum advantage. He thinks he can draft 2 Mack-quality players and get them on dirt cheap contracts for 5 years. Of course, nobody sane thinks so - but
he does, and he's in charge over there now.
I left this out of my last post - but I'll add here. If I'm right about Gruden pursuing a rolling teardown of the Raiders, I wouldn't be surprised if he traded Carr away in the next 1-1.5 years. Carr's contract is already below-market given his abilities (and will only become even more so as the salary cap continues to increase), and teams are so fukking desperate out here for proven QB talent I wouldn't be surprised if Carr could be turned into another 2-3 1st round picks plus 2 second-round picks...and maybe even more. Carr isn't Gruden's "guy" - Gruden didn't draft him. At the end of the day, Gruden strikes me as someone who wants to draft and develop a QB of his own - much like Belichick got to with Tom Brady. Ego, pride, vanity, all that shyt plays into this. And given Carr's reaction to Khalil Mack being traded, it's probably just a matter of time before Gruden and Carr are at odds with one another.
Also keep in mind that if Gruden gets to draft his own QB before the CBA expires in 2021...he'll have him locked up on a cheap as fukk deal for 5 years. As the Raiders' cash flow problems subside, that will free up cap space for Gruden to pursue whatever free agents he wants...I think the dude is planning for a Super Bowl run in ~5 years once he's cashed in on the draft assets he's accumulating right now. Just in time for the Raiders to be able to afford to fire him ...except they won't, because he thinks they'll be good then. Instead, it'll be leverage for another massive contract extension
Raiders will probably be a shyt team for the next few years as far as what happens on the field...but they're probably going to be one of the most interesting franchises to watch from a transactions standpoint.
