Am I the only person who hates triple threat matches?

After seeing Iyo Sky inexplicably win the title this past Monday, when Rhea vs Bianca was what fans wanted to see…….it’s obvious it’s going to be a triple threat at Mania now.

Triple threat matches to me are tired and all the same. I know I can’t be the only one sick of these type matches?

The wwe outside of heyman booking has and will always be trash.
So their misappropriation style attempts to emuate ecw booking devoid of heyman booking the smack down six triple threats are usually lacking.
outside the outlier of the first Sixpack challenge.
being rated five stars by Scott Keith.

I wish triple threats were by default elimination matches. The way it’s always done now is lazy booking to protect someone you don’t want to win a feud but also don’t want them to take a pin.

Agree. They get used way too often when it's simply they don't want the Champ to beat the #1 contender YET - Champ retains in the 3 way by beating the #2 contender and then the guy that didn't get pinned gets their 1 on 1... the booking usually just telegraphs the whole thing. We all know we're coming back next event for the real match before a bell even rings.

If they were elimination matches bookers would at least have to deal with both people getting beaten.

Edit: I'm sure someone nerdier than me could crunch the numbers from Cagematch, but I'm convinced that despite Kayfabe saying the champ only has a 1/3 chance of winning a 3 way it's almost always seems to result in the champ retaining.

They're a great way to freshen things up instead of constantly burning the same singles matches but for some reason both WWE & AEW are too p*ssy to really book three top guys in one.

Like this right here would have been CRAZY :wow:

This. The way companies use Triple Threats now is too predictable plus you get the repeated "the champ doesn't have to be pinned to lose their title" references during the match.

I feel that Paul caved in to the IWC and inserted Iyo in the feud by having Rhea drop the belt to her. There was signs earlier this year that Rhea vs Bianca was coming (both talking about it on various interviews). It's lazy, protective booking but I guess he was this story to play out for a while and not end at Mania.

This feels like when Luger beat Hoegan before Sting could at Starrcade 97'. Except at least Luger was on a heater at the time. Still probably shouldn't have happened.

For the record I don’t hate the match, they can be quite fun to watch, it’s just the booking aspect of it I don’t like

Luger said it was a last minute thing too. He found out right before he went to the ring that night that he was beating Hoegan.

It was the 100th episode of Nitro. They needed something big. And Hogan got it back like a week later.

I don't have a problem with triple threat matches as long as there's a purpose. Like Orton/Triple H/Cena at WrestleMania XXIV (one of my favorite triple threats). Pretty sure the plan was for Cena to face Triple H that year before he got hurt, then Orton took his place. Then Cena came back earlier than expected, so they had to find a way to keep Triple H in the title match while also accommodating Cena. The way they did it made sense and ensured that nobody got left out. It also gave us a match we've never seen before.

They knew that Rhea/Bianca was a big-time match and they wanted to build it up as much as they could before it happened. The fact that they're openly acknowledging it lets me know they're going to get to it, whether it's SummerSlam or next year's Mania. At the same time, Iyo has been in the mix for a while and she's hot right now, so they wanted to capitalize on it. It probably won't be the main event, but it will still be one of the best matches on the card.

Punk/Rollins/Reigns may or may not happen. If it does, they're going to need to put a stipulation on it, like the winner gets added to the WWE Championship match the next night. If it doesn't, they'll have Rollins/Reigns and Punk will probably get into the WWE Championship match some other way. A triple threat with no prize is weird, and I doubt they go another year without putting Punk in the main event, so this is the only way to make it happen.
