I prefer the regular barbell squat. I've done it on the smith machine before, and you have to position yourself differently. If I didn't have a squat rack to work with, I'd stick with the v-squat machine, the joint where you have the pads on your shoulders.

i wouldnt say youre a bytch, but youre short changing yourself

and id say that when you attempt true barbell squat you might feel :flabbynsick:

best bet is man up and do it the right way and work up, and i know where folks are coming from..i did the same thing :yeshrug:

The smith machine doesn't allow you to follow the natural line of the squat movement, and by using it you are neglecting the stabilising muscles that you would use in a barbell squat.

Basically, barbell squat is a full body exercise and smith squat is a leg only exercise. It won't do you any harm to use it but IMO its far better to use barbell than smith if you can.

Myself. fukk 12(1)!
A bytch? No, but you are shortchanging yourself. If you're nervous, just use a stabilizing belt and like others have said, use a squat rack.

It's the best strength exercise you can do breh.

I were you I'd get into it, just start real light and concentrate on getting your technique right. Get knees & hips parallel at the bottom of the movement, and the bar as stable as you can across the top of your back. Like you say, you can fukk up easily so leave your ego at the door when you start.

Once you got it just keep building up the weight each workout. I started with 10kg per side (90lbs with bar) on that stronglifts workout and worked my way up to 130kg (about 290lbs) in 12 weeks.
