But yes, It is very likely that modern day Igbos are the result of intermixing between volta-niger groups that moved downwards from central Nigeria into eastern Nigeria 3000 years ago and (maybe) indigenous benue-congoid people which were culturally dominated by the immigrating group. This could explain why Igbos speak a a volta-niger language while being more related to some benue-congoids.

If only there was more DNA tests within Nigerian (ancient samples and modern samples)

I always figure Igbos were semi bantu but alot of Igbos don't "look" bantu either(yes, bantus do look different from west africans).

Yes that’s right. Even though bantu speaking people span three different regions and have different looks, They still look generally different from the average west african. In addition,(if we only consider Central African Bantus under the assumption that they are less mixed with Khoisan, Nilotic, twa people ) it would make sense that igbos don’t look exactly like Bantu people because semi-Bantus (bamileke, ejagham, efik) which Igbos are related also look different to them.

But many Igbos definitely look more similar to someone from Congo or Gabon than someone from Mali or Senegal or even Ivory Coast/Ghana.

a typical non shehalid Senegalese look like
senegalidm.jpg

and they're saying congolese are like
congolesidm.jpg

but it's interesting that alot of nba players who are from congo are closer to the first picture. I think Serge Ibaka and Bizmark Beyombo look Senegalese, but whenever I see a crowd picture of congolese, they look closer to the second picture

Yep, definitely. African ethnicities aren't clones of each other but definitely in every group you tend to see more features pop than others. I have seen many Igbos that look like the first and second picture, but the second definitely looks like a more familiar face.

I partially agree. I think Igbo/Ibo people can look more (Western) 'Cameroonian'. Yet many Cameroonians look like a cross between Nigerians and Central African Bantus.

There are quite a range of looks in West Africa. The first pic has I like to call the 'West African Sahelian' look. Usually tall, slim (ectomorph to ecto-mesomorphic), very dark skinned, narrow oval head, 'smaller' & 'narrower' facial features on average. This look is mainly found in Senegal and the 2 Guinea countries. However, it's found across the West African Sahel.

The pic(s) comes from this website

I think Igbo/Ibo people look like a mix of:
Guineo Camerunian
Sudanid (proper)
West Congolesid

An abstract from a report detailing the supposed iron contribution to Ancient Egypt from Central Africa:

"It is suggested that these facts support the theory that it is from Africa that iron first came into use. The finding of worked iron in the Great Pyramids seems to corroborate this view. The metal, however, is singularly scarce in collections of Egyptian antiquities. The explanation of this would seem to lie in the fact that the relics are in most cases the paraphernalia of tombs, the funereal vessels and vases, and iron being considered an impure metal by the ancient Egyptians it was never used in their manufacture of these or for any religious purposes. This idea of impurity would seem a further proof of the African origin of iron. It was attributed to Seth, the spirit of evil who according to Egyptian tradition governed the central deserts of Africa."
