Think about all the rapekits that sit in rooms and are never followed up on. Some even get thrown away. Pretty wild. And the perpetrators are a looot of white dudes out here running around with wives and children now.
Back in '08, Detectives were combing the streets of the North End for the rapist when they ran into him and chased him. He ran to his car, and they arrested him on possession charges. He got off with pre-trial probation and was allowed to continue on like nothing happened.
Bail is moreso about flight risk, than being a threat to society. The two concepts are loosely corellated but not the same thing often leading to the release of dangers to society and the detention of folks who wouldnt hurt a fly.
For example, a whitecollar international bible salesman, charged with accounting fraud will be an extreme flight risk despite being no threat whatsoever to society. Alternatively, a man charged with domestic abuse or assault will be released if they have never had a passport, have meager financial holdings, and have strong ties to community organizations like churches or family networks.
