You can’t use Social media as a barometer, it didn’t exist in Lebrons day. In comparison there are kids in high school now with millions of followers with no famous daddy to show for it.
Those other kids haven't proven they can generate money like Lamelo already has and havent been famous as long as him. Not sure if he'll be a superstar in the NBA but Lamelo has the persona down pat. Point blank, he's just one of those guys whom people will discuss and will either love or hate. You see it already with some going overboard and declaring him a bonafide mega star before he's played a single minute in the leauge, while others on the opposing side are so mind numbingly resentful towards him that they're literally wishing against all hope -- and reality -- that he won't even be drafted.
One thing for certain is that he's world's more compelling than his socially awkward gump of a brother. I think he's the only Ball brother that'll be remotely worth a damn, but I look forward to seeing if he can successfully ball at the NBA level.

It's hard to compare eras but you have to realize that Bron was the most hyped high school player since Lew Alcindor. He was a household name to even non-basketball fans by his senior year in high school and was on the cover of multiple major national publications.
LaMelo is probably the most famous high school player in the social media era thus far (although Bronny probably will surpass him if he is any good), but he doesn't have crossover appeal like Bron did from damn near his junior season.
I need more proof to believe this.
